24p Deck?

Do you need a "24p" deck to capture stuff shot in 24p mode?
I plan on getting a deck soon. Does Panasonic make a reliable prosumer deck that works hand-in-hand with the DVX-100?

Re: 24p Deck?

all your doing is playing back a tape that was shot in 24P mode...so with that said you can just use a cheap miniDv camera or get a deck like a Sony DSR-11 or GVD-1000 and other miniDV decks...

Re: 24p Deck?

As a matter of fact, I followed the above thread before I made my post. It does not answer the questions I posted.

David, maybe you need to look harder at the questions before posting a reply.

Re: 24p Deck?

I suppose a smiley would have helped. I meant it in a friendly way. ;) I suppose if I had been able to convey the same tone Hanks used in the movie, that would have been more clear. :-[

Let me explain. The thread I posted mentions several Panasonic decks, and all the decks mentioned work fine with the DVX. There's no such thing as a "24p" mini-DV deck, and I honestly thought that thread would make the answers to your questions clear to you. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Re: 24p Deck?

Yeah, it's funny how easily tone can be misinterpreted when all you've got is the straight text to go by :)   Smilies must've been added to avoid a total breakdown of social norms in communication.  ;)

I'm curious tho, cocco, in what way does the other thread David linked to not answer your questions?

Do you need a "24p" deck to capture stuff shot in 24p mode?

Many of the posters were using normal consumer miniDV cameras to capture their footage.  As the DVX100(A) is currently the only 24p-able miniDV camera on the market, I would think that the fact others are successfully capturing their DVX-recorded footage with a normal consumer camera would answer your question.

Does Panasonic make a reliable prosumer deck that works hand-in-hand with the DVX-100?

As it appears that nearly any miniDV camera/deck has the ability to capture DVX-100 24p footage, I guess you might have to clarify what it means IYO for a deck to "work hand-in-hand with the DVX-100", for us to point you in the right direction.

Fortunately, even if that thread didn't contain the answers you were looking for, there are many other threads that ask the same question!;D  Here's just a small selection of them:

1. How do you edit 24p footage? (link)
2. Consumer cam as VTR?? (link)
3. Can I use this as a deck? (link)
4. Will I need a deck? (link)

HTH :)
