24p and 60i in the same project

Forgive me if this has been discussed before; I did a forum search but I haven't been able to come up with anything. I'm shooting a documentary with the DVX this week, mostly in 24p, but I know there will be additional 60i footage that will need to be used for the final cut. With this in mind, should I be shooting in 24p "standard" mode? Advanced? Does it matter? Any help would be great.

Standard mode, as near as I can figure. At least that is what I chose for a mixed project. I will use a 60i timeline, with some footage in 60i and other footage in 24p. Check with me in a month to see how it turned out. :)

What galt said: if mixing 24p and 60i, you'd want to edit in a 60i timeline, and shooting 24pn is preferable for editing in a 60i timeline.

Hey Barry, could you please explain why 24pn would be preferable to 24pa? I would think that there would be no difference.

Haakon, which NLE will you be using?

24PA can easily be reconstructed to its original pure 24p frames with no recompression. 24PN cannot -- it needs to be uncompressed and have the fields recombined back to their original pattern.

If you're editing on a 24p timeline, use 24pA. That's what it's for. That's its main benefit.

If you're editing on a 60i timeline, use 24pN. It has the smoothest cadence for a 60i project.
