Hey all,
So I went to B&H today to do some comparisons between the 24P on the XL2 and the 24F on the XL-H1. My main concern before purchasing the XL-H1 was its 24F performance. Well I can tell you that 24F performs every bit as good as 24P. The motion rendition seems to be exactly the same. I recorded a fast pan with both cameras and placed the footage side by side in Final Cut Pro and exported out a quick clip for you all to see. You can analyze it frame by frame and see how 24F seems to emulate 24P footage extremely well. Even down to the motion blur, it seems equal ...
Hope this helps in the whole 24F motion rendition confusion. It may not capture progressively, but whatever the Digic DVII chip is doing, it sure outputs as if it was progressive. In DV, you even have the same 2:3 and 2:3:3:2 pulldown options. Check it out for yourself and you be the judge.

One note: These clips were both shot in normal 2:3 pulldown mode ... I should've done 2:3:3:2 to be able to create a true 23.98 file, but this should demonstrate the motion just fine.
Let me know what you think.
