24p advanced straight to AE?

My first post here, so don't be too harsh if this was already answered:

If i want to capture my 24p advanced footage straight from the camera into After Effects, is there a plug-in or AE version that will allow for this? Or do I still have to capture using Vegas or whatever? Would maybe magic bullet (some newer version) help at all?

Basically, I am trying to edit in 24p rather then ntsc, and want to have 24 frames in every second.

Sorry, there's no way to capture via AE. :(

However, it wouldn't matter if you could. Every capture program will capture the video the same (as 29.97 video for an NTSC cam). The difference is how the NLE you're using interprets the footage. This is especially important for 24pA footage as the pulldown method is different than the standard method (however more and more NLEs are supporting it).

What NLE are you using? You may be able to edit on a 24p timeline in it already. :)

I will be using adobe premier. Now, if AE captures normal 60i, then is there an automatic tool, or way to discard those redundant frames (the way 24p Advanced is recorded) so that in the end all I have is 24 still frames for every second? Or would I have to manually erase every 5th frrame which would be an impossible job, that is if I want to strictly stay in AE and premiere?

Basically I would be happy if I could capture regular NTSC and then just hit a button which will erase all those pulldown frames created in advanced mode so that I am left with regular 24 frames for every second of the footage.

First of all, I just want to reiterate that there isn't any way to capture video via AE.

Also, like I said in my previous post, it depends more on your NLE whether or not you can edit 24pA footage, due to the different pulldown method employed (as opposed to 24pN footage). For instance, NLEs such as Sony Vegas and Adobe Premier Pro v1.5 can edit 24pA footage (they basically ignore the extra info and show you only the 24 progressive fps). Both of these program can capture the footage from a dv camera/deck as well.

Also, note that once you've captured your footage to your computer (using a capture program or NLE), AE can work with 24pA footage, tho I wouldn't recommend it for actual editing.

If for some reason you still need to convert your captured footage to a video file containing only the 24 progressive fps, you can use a program such as DVFilm Maker. However, if you have access to a NLE that can edit 24pA, I would consider this an unneeded step.

It's really much simpler than all that, and you dont need an NLE to do it. Go download this app and capture your footage:

You will capture the footage as standard NTSC 60i, ( Panasonic 24PA is just an interlacing schema, and not a different format, so you can use _anything_ to capture )

Import your DV clips into AE and set ther're interpretation to 24P advanced. Drag the clip over the "new comp" button, and bingo, you have a 24 frame per second comp w) your progressive footage inserted.

Ethan - Nice clean site. Liked your work on the "Arperture" video. Are you using some of the footage from the Prelinger Archives for your work?

I love the prelinger site, so much great content there. The "StockStock" film festival that the "Aperture" video was produced for, sends you a DV tape with about an hour of footage. Everyone receives the same footage and then creates a 3 min video from it. This year, everything on the tape was from the prelinger archives. It was allot of fun to produce.
