24P(A) capture problems (FCP)

First time capturing 24 advanced footage... using pulldown removal, and everything works just fine, but every few minutes I get a capture error:

"Capture now was aborted due to a break in cadence in the VFR/Pulldown in the source stream."

What is it?

P.S I'm capturing with a little canon, into my powermac G5, with FCP 5.

EDIT: ARGGGGG!! now when I drop the footage into the timeline, it shows I have to render it!? I shot on F6 (24pa right?), and I'm capturing in DV NTSC advanced pulldown removal. Shouldn't that give me a 24fps timeline?? why would I need to render??

EDIT # 2: OK... now I'm really confused. I captured about 40 minutes of tape, and the capture problems stated above cut the 40 mins of tape into 6 seperate "tapes" in my browser. I dropped "tape 1" into my timeline, and it showed that I had to render the footage. WTF? Well, then I continued to drop all the tapes in the timeline, and on the last tape, it did NOT need to be rendered. That makes absolutely no sense to me.

All I can think of is that maybe the dial got switched from F6 to F5 somehow during the shoot, but I highly doubt that's possible.

I not a pro at this either, but you have to set up your timeline first, that's why you're getting the red or needing to be rendering message.

Did you check to see in the browser if all of the frame rates are the same?

I just checked all the clips, and they're all 23.98fps like I assumed... but the last one say's it's 29.98 fps. I don't know how that happened, but I can only assume that the dial got switched.

Besides that... if I'm capturing using the "advanced pulldown removal", that should give me a 24fps timeline, right????? that's what I was using, and it gave me a 30fps timeline.

I guess I'll try it again and see what happens.

First: When capturing 24p adv footage, FCP can't capture across breaks in recording. This breaks the pulldown cadence. It is a pain, but you have to capture each recorded segment separately. So you would start capture just after the recording started and then stop capture just before the recording stops. You will have to do this for each time the camera started/stopped recording.

Here is any easy way to set it up when you start a new project:

Open a new project in FCP.

Goto "Final Cut Pro" menu at top and select "easy setup". In the window that opens, select "DV-NTSC 24P (23.98) adv. pulldown removal". Choosing this for your project will correctly set up FCP to capture 24P adv. and it will also correctly set up a 24P timeline for your footage. That is all you should have to do.

Also, take a look at this page for some more details:

Found it. Got it. Thanks.

P.S. to answer another question... yes, I have to capture each clip seperately where the camera was paused.

For timeline,
how to do you set your setting?

go to preference, and set fcp set up at 24p
and log and capture as dv pal
is my setting correct
