EVA1: 240fps RAW SDI records to DNxHR?? (Just tested)

So, playing around on some tests today with SDI out to Atomos Shogun Inferno via SDI.

I set the camera to SDI RAW output 2.2k MIX mode, set VFR to 240fps, and over SDI I recorded to the Atomos. I recorded in ProRes RAW to test on my Macbook Pro, but I also tried setting it to DNxHR HQ. The signal recorded and plays back on Windows Premiere and looks spectacular. Very clean, no codec noise, etc.

Now RAW footage - looks to have a mild look baked in (not sure which look?) but it works.

So apparently you can record high quality 240fps out to DNxHR right now, to even an old SSD (I have an old Samsung 256gb SSD not even supported on Atomos site) and at least in my short testing bursts seems to work fine.

Is this old news? I am new to the external recorder/SDI outputs.

What look might be baked in here? In any case, I am pleased that I can at least get out some quality 240fps footage in the interim while I wait for PC ProRes support.

Will go play on my Macbook/FCP X later to check out the RAW footage.

I should clarify that as much as a report, this is also a question:

What is being recorded to the Atomos when sending SDI Raw output, but NOT recording to a RAW codec, but rather DNxHR?

What look is being applied (and why) to the "Raw Output but not RAW codec" footage?

Hmm, perhaps. I'll look into it.

So are you saying the EVA1 in RAW should be outputting a vlog equivalent signal if not recorded to a RAW codec? I don't see any options or settings to impact the LUT or the look on a RAW out signal. I don't believe I have anything set on the Atomos to apply a look.

Ok, little confused by this. Atomos says:

"It turns out that if you are running ProRes RAW from the EVA-1, you are getting a 10Bit LOG RAW file. Instead of it using Vlog, it uses PANA RAW LOG, which has a different curve. This is why is looks flatter than a linear signal, but not as flat as normal VLOG footage."

However, I'm not running anything from the EVA1 other than SDI RAW OUTPUT. Perhaps the rep meant if you are recording to a video signal via RAW, such as ProRes (or DNxHR, which I am), that it becomes 10-bit LOG RAW via "PANA RAW LOG"? (Instead of a 12-bit raw signal recorded to ProRes RAW)?

1. Could that be what he meant?
2. What is PANA RAW LOG and are there LUTs for it? I googled and found nothing

Mitch - any insights here?

Much thanks!
