235 Studios Presents: SEMELE

UPDATE - Pick Ups Scheduled-

UPDATE - Pick Ups Scheduled-

So I just got done talkign with my cast and crew and I have scheduled a couple of pick ups - they begin in about 15 minutes. :) There are a couple of close ups of some items that I want to get, so I'll be heading back out to the set (My garage to film them.) Fortunately I do not need to have the cast and crew come back for them, as the set ups are very basic. (There is a shot of a computer screen that I want to get again- as I want to be able to read it better.)

So off to the set I go. :)

BTW- the rough edit is coming along nicely. I have it all roughed out. After the couple of pickups I should be able to refine the edit some more.

Cool, Ryan. I'm looking forward to hearing more updates. Maybe you can bring some of what you've done to our shoot this weekend for "Where Silence Falls."

LOL, had me going, Ryan. I'm like, oh-oh, but I've shaved already! Just got my hair cut MUCH shorter as well (about 30 minutes ago).

Rebecca, nice plug of another film in someone else's thread. Sheesh, where's the tact?! Kidding!

I'll bring what I have, to show you all- it will not be much, just the locked edit. Once the locked edit is delivered to the various people, when it comes back the final draft is much more impressive- with the score, ADR, sound design ....

Nice! Yeah, I thought that would be a funny post- I did use my hand as a hand double for yours, as I didn't think it was worth your time to come all the way out here just to get a CU of you taking a USB drive out of a laptop ....

So my wife hates DVXUser in general (something about me spending more time here at night than her, I don't know, I was posting at the time) and I think all those anti-dvxuser sentiments transferred to our unborn son because...

Many months ago back in November I agreed to help Ryan because Semele's Jan 6 shoot date was a full week after my wife's due date and we all expected her to go early. Well Dec 30th (due date) came and went and she was still pregnant. We got to within a few days from Jan 6 and Ryan asked me to be sound guy as well. So Friday night I call Ryan at 10pm telling him my wife is having no contractions so I'd see him the next morning. At 10:45pm her water broke! I had no choice but to stay with her all day Saturday. So poor Ryan had to wake up at 4am just to drive an hour away to the hospital to meet with me so I could pass off my blank guns (I provided all the guns for Semele). I was also going to finally get to meet Norm and all the other DVXUser guys that were there. Alas.

William John Philip Nelson (my first) was born yesterday at 7:30pm, weighing 7-1/2 lbs, 19" long and totally healthy. Mom is great too. I post this from the free wifi at the hospital. My wife is saying something but I've just got to post this first...
Congratulations Shawn! That is great news!!! (sounds like you and I have the same "understanding" wife to deal with when it comes to dvxuser!!!

Hey guys, Sorry that I have not been able to visit your thread in so long. So busy with our own shoot. I am reading it now and will be able to keep up with you now!!!

Good luck all!!!

I had a great time gaffing this movie. Life is good. I wish there was more room. The actors were against the wall at the end of a narrow room. This made lighting a huge challenge. I was happy we had dimmers. This allowed me to adjust the ratios of lights. Next project, we'll need some color correcting gels so that the color temps don't warm up as I dim down. Do they even make that stuff?! Anyhow, it was fun. I wish I could be working on both movies (Semele and Where Silence Falls)! In the meantime, I'll be hanging out at EuroRSCG's studio to learn more about commercial lighting for TV. Anyhow, thanks to my wife Ai Leen for doing the BTS photos!

Now back to root canals,
tung

I wish you were going to be there too Tung! Thanks for all your hard work on Semele. Your wife is such a joy to work with, so sweet. You are a lucky man! Good luck on those root canals.... ouch.

Is Euro having a teaching course or do you know someone there? I was at the studio a few months ago and they've got some sweet stuff there. I always refer to them as Tyee even though they haven't been that for a while (TYEE is still stamped on half their gear though).

Btw, where are the BTS shots that your wife did for Semele? I'd love to see them.

There are some a page or three back from pre-lighting and shooting in the morning at the exterior location.

Hopefully we'll get to meet sometime soon. I was really looking forward to meeting you on Saturday, but hey, other things were definitely more important!

Tung, you're ALWAYS of course invited to come out. For anyone even wondering, I would have had him as Gaffer for WHERE SILENCE FALLS as well, but it was important to me to have the key crew that will be on TRINITY RIVER, the feature, work this short as a warm-up excercise. I had already spoken with Tung a while back, and he will still be in school during the 3 week shoot.

Anyway, Tung, if you get a chance, we would love to have you come on by!

Shawn, CUTE baby! I'm PM'ing you now.

Some of them are posted earilier in this thread. There are just under 200 BTS pix- which I'll use on the site I'm putting together for the film, and they'll be on the DVD too. She did a great job photographing the days events. :)
