23.98P Output option clarification. & Cinedeck

Hi,

I've finally succeeded in convincing the production to put the money down to get a Cinedeck Extreme for the feature film I'm shooting next week. So I will be shooting S-Log to prores 4444!!!

My question is regarding the 23.98P Output option from the camera VIDEO SET menu. Does it effect the dual-link HD-SDI A connector as well as the SDI OUT/HDMI OUT/VIDEO OUT outputs or does the dual link stay 23.98PsF even if I set that option to 59,94i? The reason I need to put it to 59.94i is because of the Cineroid Viewfinder I'm also getting to operate doesn't seem to take the HD progressive signal. So it's either 59.94i or SD in the HDMI. Will that also output 59.94i to the Cinedeck?

Also, is anybody aware of what kind of signal is output from the Cinedeck SDI OUT? The monitor we have displays a green image when connected to the SDI OUT of the cinedeck. What"s weird is it only does it when live and recording, playback is fine and the colors are ok. And the Cineroid won't work from the HDMI out from the Cinedeck. So I'm kinda stuck with providing the director with only a B&W image from the video out of the camera, because I'm using the HDMI of the camera to plug my EVF.

Thanks for the help.

I think that the monitor out SDI would only be affected going from 24Psf to 60i. The dual SDI 444 steam is not going to be interlaced it's progressive. Not sure on the Cinedeck's, output. What monitor are you using.

And a B&W monitor for the Director will fly for about one day....Don't start the shoot with him hating the camera. Ditch the Cineroid if it compromises everything. Figure something else out or rent a DP6 with SDI.

The monitor is a Panasonic 17" BTLH1700WP. What's weird is it displays playback from the cinedeck just fine, but live and recording are a solid green.

Unfortunately, we start shooting tomorrow, so I'll just have to ditch the cineroid and operate from the LCD, which in broad daylight will be a challenge.

Thanks!

The Dual-Link SDI A port will always output 23.98 psf (when set to 23.98) even if you have 2-3 pull down 59.94i mode enabled. The pull-down enabling option only changes the output of either the single link HD-SDI or HDMI. So you could feed the 23.98 feed to the CineDeck and still have an HDMI output in 59.94i to feed a viewfinder.

The Cinedeck should loop through the SDI signal that you send to it. However if you are feeding it 23.98 HDMI will not output correctly... 23.98 doesn't work with HDMI 1.3.

Simon,

I am having the same problem as you are. I'm using a Zacuto Z-Finder instead but am faced with the same issue. I also get the same green/yellow image when connected to a monitor but when I playback, it plays back normal.

Have you found a work around to be able to use your viewfinder in conjunction with the cinedeck?

Time for someone to create an elegant flow chart for the output schemes of the F3. I don't have S-Log or I would fire up Excel and give it a whirl. Would probably be best as a true flow chart with decision paths.... with yes/no, format and output option decision trees.
