2012 - Yeah baby.

that 1/24 shutter look on some of the low light scenes in the new trailer looks terrible. I'm guessing this movie was partly shot on RED or some other digital cam? What a way to ruin a Hollywood blockbuster. I don't know about other filmmakers but I can't stand that look. It's everywhere now. And it's always going to be about the digital camera's ability to shoot in low light. That's good and all but it just doesn't look good on a movie - on any movie for that matter. Don't they have tech's on set that would otherwise inform the DP not to use it? And I know it's not them trying to be green or trying to save costs on lighting.

the voice at the end of the trailer sounds like the guy who does "the most interesting man in the world" Dos Equis commercials..haha

Tidal waves break for him.

He uses molten lava to lather before a shave.

He once survived the end of the world.

Where is this 1/24 shutter look you're talking about DV?

The new trailer rocks! http://www.whowillsurvive2012.com/

Robbie

out of all the shots, these were most apparent

the first starts at 0:54
second is at 1:35
then it's at 2:01
finally the closing shot with Cusack - which is the worst of them all.

I just want to know why it has to be this way. Doesn't the director see the footage and realize it looks more videoish than film?

come on.

I don't think much of the general audience cares what looks it has. I don't think they are going to sit in that theater and try to pick out the nitty gritties of it. Me, I look forward to the Visual FX galore and hope there is a good story behind it. Tha's all.

I've seen this exact movie several times already, directed by the same guy, featuring the same exact shots. I bet Roland doesn't even go to the set anymore, he just directs via ichat. Laaaazzzzyyyy.

Wow. I think he destroyed more cars in that 5 minute clip than Michael Bay has in his entire career.

//Did California just sink?

New 5 minute clip online. This looks retarded, but entertaining-retarded, not boring-retarded. CGI looks pretty darn cool, but we all knew that. Dialogue is laughably bad.

As a private-pilot, I'm already offended.

GOOD GOD!!! Beyond ridiculous!!! I think Emmerich just invented disaster-porn. I don't think Cusack had to fake his reactions as they probably recorded his horror upon realizing what movie he was in. That this hack is at the helm of Asimov's foundation series scares the bejeezus out of me. I guess he'll finally get his chance to destroy the entire universe.

I like his films; they're much better versions of the old school disaster films, Towering Inferno, Earthquake, etc.

He's like the modern day Irwin Allen.

Towering Inferno may have been a little bit laughable in places but I think it was more interesting storytelling revolving around more interesting characters than, say, Independence Day, Godzilla or The Day After Tomorrow.

My favorite moment in Towering Inferno is Robert Wagner on fire. There's so much build up to the moment, like he's going to save the day, and then he doesn't have one foot half out the door before he becomes a blazing, slow-motion corpse. Oddly hysterical.

I liked that because it kind of tweaked convention. I mean, the Very First Time you saw it, didn't you expect him to somehow heroically prevail? First time I saw it, I was all like...oh, yeah, he's gonna get to safety and find an extinguisher and get back and rescue his...

...oh.

Question for Archimedes: how much water does Southern California displace? None apparently.
