Are there any advances on this front?

I am going to build my suite to run FCP 3 and am researching what computer would be best. My budget is tight so I'm looking for the best bang for my buck. I am looking at iMacs or the Mac Mini. I use an HPX170 so I edit DVCPROHD.

Some concerns are speed and performance (obviously) as well as dual monitors and other features.

Any input?

Just get a base level iMac which is around $1199 which is faster than any mac mini available, A LOT faster.

If you are working with DVCProHD, then the iMac or MacMini should be fine.

However, note issues with the need for faster media drives for variations of ProRes.
