2008-2009 NFL Thread

Brandon, your Broncos really caught a break yesterday. Gutsy call from Shanahan to go for 2 and the win, I liked it though. I also like how the Chargers are 0-2.

Pats played really well yesterday. Thought the defense did a hell of a job and Cassel stepped right in and while he's no Tom Brady, he played a good game and didn't make any mistakes and try and force the ball, unlike Brett Favre. I love beating the Jets, also love beating them with our backup QB.

Tonights Monday Nighter should be a good game to watch.

We're 2-0... I love Shanahan... always have. He's a gutsy coach, and I like that.

We're 2-0, that's all that matters.

I agree. There isn't a coach in the NFL I would rather have. Our Offense has been looking incredible. I've been saying all off season to anyone who would listen that our Offense has the potential to be mighty special this year. Our Defense and Special Teams on the other hand....horrid.

When I was watching the end of the Broncos game I was thinking why coaches don't go for two more often (in that situation with no time left) I mean, if you kick the extra point, you basically have to win the coin toss, and then go up the field 60-70 yards and kick a field goal. Obviously kicking the field goal is alot easier than converting a conversion but your right there and might as well go for it then instead of having a 50/50 chance of winning the coin toss and giving the other team a chance to win. I thought it was a great call. I've always respected Shanahan, he's been an extremely classy coach and very respectful to our players and coaching staff anytime he's played the Pats. He always brings a great game plan against us too.

The Oakland Raiders front office is a joke, who would ever want to coach that team with Al Davis micro managing it. The best NFL owners are the ones that appoint a coach or player personnel and let them run with it. Al Davis is a joke.

I am a lifetime Oakland fan, stick with 'em through good time (few) and bad (many). And I agree 100%, the number 1 problem the Raiders have is Al Davis. I won't be sad to see him go, if he ever does (there are rumors he's already dead and they just prop him up in a chair in that box  )

He sure looks like it. He seems like a bitter old man. Ridiculous that the head coach can't fire a coordinater. What a terrible decision, football is the ultimate team game and it first and fore most starts with the coaches, having two guys that hate each other try and work together is the worst idea ever. Sadly for Raiders fans, he'll have to die before anything gets changed.

Chargers. Were. ROBBED!!!

Absolutely, there was no way that was not a fumble. Terrible call. And that ref is usually one of the better ones in the league. Unfortunately mistakes are made and not much he could have done about it after he blew the play down.

Screw the Chargers. Bad call or not, they got Pwned on the 2 pointer

-

Broncos baby.

2 - 0

80 PF in 2 Games.

I'm liking the rook Eddie Royal and Marshall is doing fine.

=

What's up with Aaron Rodgers at Green Bay ? Effin stud.

Not sure if anyone said this yet but,

Chargers. Were. ROBBED!!!

Yes. I do admit the Chargers got screwed there. But, if this fumble/bad call happened in the first quarter, resulting in the same touchdown/2 point conversion, we wouldn't even be talking about this right now.

Yeah, but it didn't so we, along with the rest of the free world have a huge problem with it. That call cost us the game, period. It was over.

Bad calls bad calls. The difference between a good team and a bad team is getting past the bad calls and stepping up and playing ball. - Bad calls happen, no one likes them and they are unfortunate. My teams have been on both ends of the coin on this one.

-

After the call, the ball was then moved from the 1 yard line to the 10 and not only did the Chargers choke once again in the final minutes, they gave up the 2 pointer to lose the game.

Chargers have the 4th worst points allowed thus far for 2008.

-

Interesting Notes on the 2 pointer:

The Broncos become just the third team in NFL history, and first since the Buccaneers in 2005, to score the game's winning points on a 2-point conversion.

Interesting Notes on the Chargers Defense:

Bronco Brandon Marshall's 18 receptions are tied with former Rams WR Tom Fears for second most in NFL history (Fears accomplished the feat in 1950). Only Terrell Owens (20 receptions in Week 16 of the 2000 season) has caught more balls in a game.

Look Charger Fans.

Obviously the game was not over as Denver still had to score a TD and a 2 pt conversion to win the game.

Holding, bad pass, interference, etc calls happen all the time.

Was the timing of this call huge? Yes

But SD still gave up 38 pts to include the TD and conversion

The rule does need to be looked at though and will be.

It’s tragic for Charger fans to have a couple of defensive stops separating you from being 2-0 and 0-2, but the thing is, San Diego’s defense didn’t get it done for the second week in a row and I understand the anger from the Bolt fans.

But yo D sucks.

Losing Shaun Merriman for the season didn't help.

I dislike the Chargers, so them starting 0-2 is great for me. Hochely made a terrific call. :)

Seriously, it was a bad call, but as John said, they happen to absolutely every team, same as injuries. Unfortunately it is part of the game. Ed Hochely is one of the best refs in the leauge and it still happend. But I'd look at the fact that you gave up 30+ points in the first place. That to me is a bigger factor in the losing the game then the bad call. Plus they had a chance to stop them on the 2pt conversion.

The rule will be change just as others have in the past. Anyone remember the Tuck rule in the Pats vs Raiders snowbowl game? It lead us to a Superbowl title that year, it happens. That was a terrible rule, they changed it. Unfortunately situations like this need to happen in games in order for the league to change it. Last year the league didn't allow replays of field goals until it came up in a game where the refs were unsure if it cleared the cross bar (I think it was a Browns game where the ball went through the up rights but hit the back post and bounced back out making it appear that it hit the cross when indeed it did clear) they made the right call but immediately the league ruled that they would be allowed to be reviewable. It has to come up in a game in order for them to correct it.

They need to put a whippin on the Cowboys.

Whew... barely eeked that one out today (Denver)

We come out roaring but can't close out the game... really starting to get old fast.

Yeah that sucks but is typical Denver football.

Next week I'll be in KC for that game. Should be fun. I'm flying down to see Sigur Ros in Den and then running over to KC for the game.

Nice to get out of town, especially as the termination dust begins to accumulate on our mountains here in Alaska.

Wheeew! You aint kiddin'. This is starting to look like Denver's cadiac kids from the late 80's early 90's. Our "D" keeps getting smoked.
