2007 Oscar Nominees...

Haven't seen THE DEPARTED or THE QUEEN yet, but I'll be amazed if either holds up to LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA for pure filmmaking brilliance.

And I'm guessing UNITED 93 was "just plain wrong" since it dramatizes the most traumatic day of our lives just 5 years after the event. Too soon would be one sound argument. I haven't seen it yet for that very reason and I'm really torn about whether I should, because I just don't know if I'm ready to see a movie that makes me relive that day.

Yup, that's what I think too, thanks Hairy!:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, but I was really happy to see that Ennio Morricone is getting the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Damn Harry, I emplore you too see this film ! It is brilliant.
Oh, I'll see it ... but yesterday I had my choice of THE DEPARTED alone or LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA with a leggy actress ... the choice was easy.

You chose wisely

I dug The Departed but the ending sucked the enjoyment out of it for me. Especially after the constant references in dialogue throughout the film. A little obvious and contrived. And Damon got on my nerves, too one note. I thought Leo was better than he's ever been - he was the soul of that film.

The Departed was the most overrated film of the year and if it didn't have the names attached to it it would have been a just another good film, not great.

oscar season is coming up.
anybody gt any favorites?

my favorite has to be Babel. I dont care if scorcese hasnt won the oscar, he makes great movies but there are better ones out there.

OH! i forgot to add. Little Miss Sunshine? yes it's an achievement for indie filmmaking..but the story really wasnt that great. i kind of dot understand why it got nominated. it's not an amazing film... it was even grosely funny... the trailer made it seem like something it wasnt.

Scorsese needs an Oscar!

It's like they say "nobody remembers what movie you got an Oscar for, just that you got one."

...and that man has been long overdue.

I'm hopeful that Scorsese will win his directing Oscar, but hope Best Picture goes to Letters from Iwo Jima. Hope O'Toole wins Best Actor, because Whitaker as a leading man nomination for a supporting role. Hope Pan's Labyrinth wins everything it's nominated for.
