2007 Oscar Nominees...

Aggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Best Director and Best Picture should be one in the same. I've always likened that split to a tie or a cop out by the Academy

That's silly. If they were supposed to go to the same movie every time they'd only be one award.

Cannes almost never gives the same film both best director and the Palm d'Or.

Best Picture = Best Picture

Best Director = Best Director

Those aren't always the same. In fact, I'd suggest they rarely are, because rarely does a film come along that so thoroughly surpasses the competition that it deserves to win the two biggest honors.

That was my point Hairy :P

(That when I see the BD, I am also liking the Picture the best)

And I disagree, usually, the film that receives BD is the BP IMO

(Moving along ...)

So in an average year when there are 300-500 new releases only 1 film deserves best picture and best director?

That's my opinion and I'm sticking too it.

I go out and make the BEST PICTURE of the year as a filmmaker / director, then I better get the Nod

Scoresese should DEFINITELY be rewarded best director; I mean...(trying NOT to SPOIL anything) but for those who have seen it...lets just say there were plenty of moments where the air was sucked out of the entire theater! There should be an ensemble cast award for this film. When i first heard that all these bad boys were in it, I was floored! And it totally blew me away beyond expectations. The chemistry between Wahlberg and Baldwin was brilliant (and damn hilarious) throughout, and the balance of characters was perfect. You had everything.

I feel Blood Diamond has been a bit overlooked; that film had alot of strong themes and really blew me away. I am glad to see that DiCaprio and Hounsou are getting the nod for their performances, although I really enjoyed Leo in The Departed too...this guy plays a new role every year it seems. I'd like to see him in some early Colonial American film playing someone like Samuel Adams or John Hancock.

I'm also glad Children of Men is up for Cinematography. I mean that last sequence was incredible. Not to mention the perfect gritty look and use of smoke, and weather. I did manage to see The Illusionist...and while I did appreciate the look of the film, I got bored with it after a while (although maybe I was too tired) To me there wasn't anything truly innovative or new about it. Or at least there didn't appear to be (no pun intended) I didn't see anything else on the list so I can't really say much.

I admit I didn't get around to seeing alot of movies this year (as usual) but from what I did see, it was a decent year all around. I should also add that Bond and Pirates were great too. I mean both those films were a thrill to watch. The new "Batman Begins" style Bond, plus the amazing visual effects of Pirates made both of those truly great films to watch.

Oh yeah and FINALLY for Ennio getting his Life Time Acheivement! He wrote some of the most memorable themes in American Cinema (besides JW of course). Really glad to see that up there.

scorsese just won the DGA award and i think there's only like five people ever who have won the DGA and then not won the Best Director oscar.
