2007 Oscar Nominees...

I loved Apocalypto, but maybe the old saying goes here: Payback is a b****.

Gibson may have a long road ahead of him before he can get back into that place where the caliber of his work alone dictates how his work is treated by his peers.

i liked Little Miss Sunshine... that said... its f*cking nominated for best picture? apocalypto should have been nominated instead IMO. DiCaprio for Blood Diamond? His performance in the Departed was much better IMO. I'd like to see Will Smith win for Happyness. Isn't Abagail Breslin now the youngest person to be nominated for an Academy Award? Meryl Streep for Devil Wears Prada? I like Streep, but that film was bad. I'd like to see Monster House win best animated film (I like Cars as well, but I really enjoyed Monster House.) My pick for Best Picture. Letters From Iwo Jima. Best Director. Scorsese.

Wish Children of Men would have been given a nod for Best Picture and Apocalypto for Best Foreign Lanuage

rootin for Pan's Labyrinth in everything its nominated! It better get something
did anyone see "Half Nelson" i havent hear very much about it.

it won best picture from the Producer's Guild, so it's no surprise it did well in the nominations here. personally, i'm glad to see the Academy has kept up the tradition of honoring a healthy selection of forgettable films. well done!

Amen. I have zero desire to see most of these movies. In six months, nobody will care.

I just DON'T understand why they ALWAYS do that! :kali:

I happy with the nomins i surprised children of men didnt get as man nods as i thought though.

I hope letters from iwo jima win its about as close to kurosawa i seen anyone get too.

The Queen or Babel?

If Babel, I agree it was good, but Best Picture? No way.

Children of Men, Apocalypto, and United 93 are better IMO.

I really think United 93 is getting overlooked in the Best Picture category.

i dont even now how that film got there. i was bored to tears.

Babel is great and I think it was a great end to his "pain is universe" trilogy. I hope either this or iwo jima take it. i havent seen the queen but it seems to be great but the others i like.... pain is good.

if they give Ms for the departed ill b upset becuase the source material will be overlooked but the fact is he should have got it for goodfellas along time ago. i cant remeber united 93... didnt have anything for me....

I saw it and really enjoyed it even though it's a tough one to watch (inner city school teacher has his recreational cocaine habit devolve into crack) ... was surprised Gosling got a nomination, but Ryan Fleck just secured himself a career making movies since the lead in his first feature got an Oscar nom. Good for him.

Marky Mark is feeling the awards vibrations. Will Smith is getting jiggy with the Academy. And Eddie Murphy likes to Oscar-party all the time.

Borat got a nomination for adapted screenplay. What? Since it's mostly improv and real life reactions, how do they figure it even had a screenplay. Was it adapted from an epic novel by Sasha? lol

Also, technically this thread should be titled "2006 Oscar Nominees". But I always hated jerks that point out meaningless stuff like that. :)

i concur. i also think Greengrass will get robbed because Scorsese "is due."

Yeah. I don't think it's going to be any suprise when Scorsese walks up there to get his Best Director statue. I love that, "is due". Doesn't make any sense. Of all his movies, Scorsese is going to win in the directing category for The Departed, which was a great flick, but I do not think deserves the win for directing this year. It's like a substitute for one of those lifetime achievement awards, which is basically what it will be if they let him win for Best Director. Why don't they just have a "Listen, you're a really good director and everyone knows it but apparently we have to give you this gold statue so that it's official" (sorry to all the other directors this year who made good movies too, but this guy deserves it for time served) Award?
