So on Thurs. I pick up a my HVX200 Barely time to get the battery charged before loading up and heading to the track. I broke it out and shot some footage on Sat. Just goofing around. Lots to still learn with it. I just left it all box stock. Parts are shakey, I only went handheld, didnt have a press-pass so its all long zoom stuff. Shot in 24P and had the shutter too fast, some of the footage came out a little "frantic".

I guess high motion stuff (bikes going by and faster pans) are better shot at 30P or 60P and edited on those frame rate timelines?

Forgive the ignorance... Its my first time using anything but a straight SD NTSC 30fps camera. again... lots to learn.

Nice, i think you did pretty good. Loved the shots of the boys taking that second last corner of the track, it looks like the very bottom of the cork screw? Bikes can be shot at 24p, you just have to get some experience and be aware of its limitations.
I cant wait to take one down to the moto gp at Phillip Island :)
 
All default settings.

Most was shot in full auto. I did adjust iris ocassionaly.

the funniest part was riding into the track. I had a camelback backpack on, saddle bags stuffed with parts for a friends race bike (AMA Formula FX) and the camera in a bag slung in front of me, sitting on the tank of my bike with the strap around my neck. Nervous about dropping it to the whole way :D

Laguna is a great track. I did a car track there no too long ago. LOTS of fun. Cant wait to get my bike out there too.
 
It will be back up, although in lower rez in a few minutes.

My hosting service got a little miffed at 10megs/sec with everyone hitting the file. :D

I believe frame rate is not important with fast moving objects like you asked. I would suggest you look at shutter speed which you did, so it's all good. 24p would have been cool to see with 60fps stuff (was there some frame rates used? I did see some overcrank but i didnt think 60fps I am prob wrong). But with all that aside, thank you for the footage, I enjoyed watching. Have fun with your new HVX.

I really love 1/250th and 1/500th. If it's bright enough 1/1000th looks sweet too. Especially when you are shooting slow-mo as well. Sometimes popping down to the normal 1/60 or 1/30 1/24th is good as well... Focus does somewhat become critical and accordingly I use either a monitor or just the viewfinder. The LCD on the HVX is useless for focus...
 
I agree, good shooting (for working without a pit pass!), and the slo-mo is remarkable. The music, however, is really, really grating. I wanted to hear the bikes. First, because I'd like to know how well the camera microphones work at that distance and with those decibels. Second, because there is no sweeter sound. Do you have a nat sound version?
 
Slo-mo is MOS in camera

I've got some other clips of the MotoGP guys with Nat sound, but it hardly does the sound justice. There is no real way to repoduce that noise.

Will see about posting them up next week (off to do ao couple of gigs with my new camera :D).
 
You need a MiniSaddle or CineSaddle. My HVX and DVX both live on them, ready to grab and run out the door. And when you're hand held, they make great seats on the hard ground. Plus they hold enough beef jerky to last me all day, plus extra batteries and my FS-100 clips to it really nice.
