its not the DVX... me and Nick are modifying a "scientific" camera for HD cine (i.e stunt use).. its bw untill the new model comes in next month. It can go from 24-5000fps, and upto 2200fps in 1024x1024 rez. There are a few things like the strobing etc. we gotta figure out but its pretty cool regardless...
unfortunately I dont think the DVX can do it.. but its two different worlds, this camera wont record sound etc.. we are just trying to make it so we dont need to rent an Arri to capture hispeed footage during a normal DVX or HD shoot... the Varicam only goes to 60fps.
can you post a 48fps? there was a discussion on this on XL-2 board and I wanted to see it. anyway, can't tell the difference.
what does it look like in full res? does it look video ish or film ish?
Jarred, I've been calling everyone Mr. on this forum young or old. It's just something I'm used to saying I guess and you forgot to answer my second question. How much? Thanks Mr...I meant Jarred.
it looks like film.. has a very narrow dof and with a good lens its a solid image.
Its funny cause me and Nick had a similar discussion on the whole 48fps put into a 24fps timeline etc... but ended up realizing we where arguing the same point.

not to sure what they are doing.. but perhaps.
Ans yes, if the color model is acceptable, we would have no problem renting it out.
..have you guys looked into other scientific cameras at all? i was checking some out some a while ago, and came across what these guys were doing with a 10,000 fps color military testing camera. :
Yeah we looked at quite a few models and met with some companies.. but most would kick down to SD at higher rates (or not even be HD) as well, we found that even 5000fps is a little excessive.. there is very little real world "film" applications for that speed.
The goal for us is to completely eliminate the lab for a feature.. It really is a setback having a movie shot 99% in i.e. HDCAM and still need to do the film stock/shoot/print/Scan for slow motion. The good thing with the camera we have now, is it records internally to a non-volatile ram array in camera, and offloads to a laptop over firewire when done.
agreed, i couldnt see a use for anything over what youve ot unless you want to watch a guy fly through the air for 1/2 an hour ..ram array? thats awsome. takes care of alot of issues you would run into with other setups. firewire is really nice as well. the price seems reasonble too considering all that your getting from the cam. how big is/are the chip/s in that thing. what are you, or do you plan on shooting the rest of the HD feature on though. varicam?
Would it be possible if I tag along with you guys a few times with these tests? I would love to check it out and learn how it all works. I would like to use this in the future so I'd like to know as much as possible.
Yes, this super short ( http://www.purposelabs.com/fists_of_dawn_1024x512.wmv ) was basically just to test to see if our 5000fps camera could actually just shoot at lower speeds, like 24p, 48p etc.. which it did well.
