$20 Led Ringlight + Stills

jpbankesmercer

Director Mod
For our last music video we tried this setup...around £5 for each light...

Heres the result..with added MB, I lifted the gamma a touch but I'm pretty happy for such a cheap setup.

The gif makes it look more grainey that it is. The image when moving is mint.

What is the advantage of ring lighting?

well, one thing would be it generally makes a nice close up "beauty light" to fill in shadows and imperfections in faces and such with a soft and even glow type lighting.

why dont you just velcro thoes battery powered flourecants to the sides of the matte box. C'mon .... everyones doing it..... ( jk its a NY DVXuser group thing... we all do that thin with the lights...)

Horse our Art Director picked them up from B@Q, anyway I know you just like Mel :)
Velcro! Of course...will do...I'm going for four next time...Two just did'nt pop it enough for me.
Cheers chaps.

For a second.. I thought your horrorfest banner had Bob Dole on it.. then I was trying to figure out who the guy with the moustache was .. maybe Freddy Mercury? That indeed would be a horror movie!

Can't find a link, yeah I'm here in the U.K. will look harder for you.
Closeups pretty much, I wanted an effect that the artist came from the blackness - closeup to the lens and then went back into the shadows. It was shot on STEADICAM so I get this really strange effect of not knowing where you are. It looks great I'm just finishing CC and edit on video. Delivering early next week so will post the footage. For such a simple setup (cant believe how expensive leds are!:crybaby: ) this suited my prupose 100% without the outlay. Also for me as a Director I always wanted to try a ringlight, now that I have its something I would look more into in the future...Obviously it has its limits and you would'nt want to over us it but I'm happy.
Cheers.
