20 fps film making.

Hi, this is mainly aimed at the moderators. Do you think we could have a dedicated 20fps film makers sub forum ?

I can see this area really growing over the coming months and years as there is a real hunger for non-standard frame rates.

People often decry 30p as lacking the magic of 24p cinema, that unique cadence that lends an other worldliness to film making. We may have once only dreamt of 24p, but over the last few years our dreams have been realized in a slew of camcorder releases that shoot at this mythical frame rate.

But now something special is in the air, something very special, I am hearing rumours that a breakthrough has been made that would - in theory - allow us to break even the magical 24p barrier.

I have heard wild talk of 22p and even 20p ! It cannot be long before the ultimate dream is reached . . . 4fpm . . . yes, four frames per minute, that's 15 seconds a frame, at that rate the image would be beautifully photographic.

So, I think it is time to stay ahead of the wave, let's get that '20 fps film making' sub forum up and going now and all pitch in with our knowledge and ideas.

Exciting times indeed.

@Squig. 'Rolling Shutter' got a share price? I expect a few people on this forum, as already namely Alexandro and Matthias have committed to shooting professional stuff with the D90, others while less vocal yet observant are doing the same: pro. You are always talking about dropping the D90 and upgrading ala car3o (and others) to the panasonic GH1. I would be interested to have your thoughts on your workflow so far with the D90 and how you intend to change them in regards your upcoming feature. Squig=big fan btw, you got a lot on your plate (2 little angels) AND got dreams intact

Arrrgh stalker!

It's a private company but we may be interested in taking on more shareholders who may want to invest in the film.

If the D90 was the only option I would still shoot the film with it but I won't be starting to shoot it till mid year so the GH1 appears to be a better option at this point. So far I've only shot one as yet unfinished music video with the D90. I'm waiting for my fcp upgrade to arrive tomorrow so I can start cutting it then I'll finally have something worthy of posting for you guys to critique.

I'll be using the same workflow as zak and matt, pro res fcp color. As for the GH1 workflow, pretty much the same but I have to do a bit more research on AVCHD and the whole 1080p 60i thing......I'm getting onto that tonight if the little monsters go to sleep.

If you're not dreaming you're most likely dead.
