FS5: 2 ?'s dealing with my Fs5, adapter and long lens

Thats incorrect. All that the speedbooster does is take the full frame image the lens creates and shrinks it so it fits onto a smaller sensor. You win light because the light is now condensed on the smaller sensor. Nothing else changes.

12mm t2.1 Zeiss is a 16mm with permanent aspheron wide angle converter attached to the front of it. Does that mean that it is not a 12mm but 16 with aspheron?
18mm Canon K35 is a 24 mm lens with aspheron front wide angle adapter. Does that mean it is not 18mm? Optical designers have done this for ever, just now they make it more economical and allow to use one wide angle adapter on many lenses.
The image generated by the new optical system comprised of a lens and speed booster does not resemble the image of the original lens:
It is brighter, angle of view changed, circle of coverage changed, field curvature, aberrations, distortion are all different. For any optical designer or engineer that warrants new lens. I don' see why it would not....

So does aspheron. and creates new lens. If I put a 135 f2.8 with the speedbooster on the optical bench and measure the focal length it is 100 or so. If I put it on a t-stop machine it is t2+. How is it not a new lens? Who cares if you tape the glass elements to the back of it, make an adapter or permanently build them into a beautifully crafted new lens barrel. It doesn't matter. It is still a new optical system. How do you not get it?

Optitek,

This is semantics. We all 'get it'. The point is, while it can be helpful to state a lens is 'like' another focal length when using a speed booster, it is more accurate, and more helpful in real terms, to describe what is in the optical path. The speed booster introduces optical characteristics of its own. Different speed boosters produce different looks and there are different designs for different cameras with different sized sensors. A lens can be used on different cameras with different sized sensors too, again producing a different image. A DoP needs to have an understanding of what each element does and how it contributes to the final captured image. So many people don't understand these basic concepts and throwing them together just further confuses them. YMMV:-)

Yes it is semantics.
But, somehow, to me, it is simpler to understand that I just have 100mm f2 lens on my camera than say:
It is 135mm
you have to multiply by .72 to get the actual FL
And you have to divide by 1.4 to get the actual f stop...
But hey- it's just me. Maybe everyone else is an algebra freak ;-)

lol I'm more upset now that the rebate is instant and my camera is still on the UPS truck and my dealer says they can't to a return and resell me the camera.

Just refuse it when it comes and take it up with your CC company. They can't make you buy it...
Remind them that they are YOUR dealer and should side with you not Sony....

Well I finally pulled the trigger. My Fs5 will be here on Tuesday. My first major camera purchase since my DVX. I've always rented higher end cameras for most of my movie work or other work.

I ordered it with the kit lens. Figure a poor man's zoom might come in handy once in a while.

And I'm buying my friends Rokinon's DS Cine lens for a good deal.

They're Nikon mount because he used them for his Blackmagic. So I'll have the 10, 16, 24, 35, 50, 85 & 100 (macro) and he's also throwing in a Sigma 18 to 35 1.8.

So my two ?'s. I heard the Novaflex (hopefully I remembered the name correctly) is the best Nikon F mount to E. Since the 10, 16 & the Sigma are APS lens.

And what would be the best 200 or longer, reasonable price lens to match the Rokinon look. I like to do some car stuff and stack the frame so that looking at the vehicles straight on and from the rear they appear closer than they are.

The lens kit sucks big time. You will hate it, IMO! Using still lenses is a very good option. As an FS7 owner, I have been plagued with lensing, mainly missing my HD zoom capabilities from 2/3" days. However after checking into the prices and weight of cinema lens options, I've come to the conclusion those lens option are not really options for me. So I just pulled the trigger on the MTF B4 to E-mount adaptor. I will lose a bit of stop, but less than getting a kit lens, which starts at f4. However due to creative optics, I will gain the field of view I'm used too and zoom capabilities to boot. No auto iris but never used it anyways as with auto focus functions. The adapter is is not cheap ($2500 US) but when you consider the price of a cinema lens that won't do as much and are heavy, I think it's a good fit. That will be my Broll and off the shoulder option. Interviews and the like will be done with my Nikon's for that sweet soft bokeh. I'm getting the MTF because it goes right on the camera with no in between adaption. I will use a little lens support but that's EZ PZ. I'll also need an optional Hiroshi cable to D-tap to power the lens but again EZ PZ. And as a special bonus, I'm getting Open Box from B&H so I'm saving almost $600. Total, sans accessories will be $2065 with free shipping.
I'll report my findings.
