2 Questions: Transcoding and shooting format

Hey Folks: Thanks for helping.

Real quick, give the tiny chip size on this camera and the in-camera compression, am I better off shooting at 720 or 1080? I'm thinking the 1080 is really just a bit of an up-rez and therefore 720 may be the best route to follow.

Second question: In terms of transcoding ease/speed--do you like FCP log and transfer or MPEG Streamclip. I believe Streamclip may have the advantage in that it uses all 8 cores of my box, whereas FCP 7 can't. (That may change with FCPX).

Any thoughts appreciated. Cheers!

-I'm not sure what you mean by "tiny chip size". 3 x 1/3" is pretty standard for cameras in this price range.
-720p should technically yield a better picture since AVCHD is fixed bit rate codec, but there have been a bunch of comparisons made and 1080p records more color information. Best bet would be to try both modes and see which one you like.
-If you have FCP, just transcode to Prores 422 or Proress LT via Log and Transfer. That's the standard procedure and I don't see the need to get MPEG Streamclp or anything else.
