BEHIND THE SCENES HERE

This behind the scenes is for a short we just directed out here in Hollywood. The film is about an addict facing himself in order to overcome his addiction.

"Withdraw" Directed by my brother Daniel and I starring David Lehre will be released on January 15 on our youtube and vimeo.

Thanks for watching.

Looks good, as I like the BTS footage.

I personally think drug abuse and other heavy subjects should be left to the professionals. It's not healthy, IMO, to focus on subjects so serious at such a young age. You have your whole life to be serious, try not to focus on such a depressing subject, IMO.

Otherwise, nice footage.

Being serious is not always being real.

Wish you the best though.

so he should only do things like the blair witch project? i say do what your heart desires, you have to start somewhere. if you cant take yourself seriously, how can you expect others to take yourself seriously.

anyway, excellent footage and editing. i couldn't tell at all this was filmed on a d90 -- i think more importantly i wasn't focusing on trying to figure out what kind of camera/camcorder it was filmed on because your editing and style pulled me in right away.

Pretending things don't exist is unhealthy. Your statement it wrong on so many levels.

Hey, despite how good the D90 stuff looks here, I think your little BTS doco is really nicely put together. I like the shots, the edit, all of it nice.

It's not pretending things don't exist; its the opposite. It's trying to relate to something that you have no experience with. I could be wrong, maybe one of the people have experience with real withdraw and drug abuse symptoms.

But when starting out with creating scripts and art its best to stick with what you know rather than try to capture 'what is real' with no 'real' experience with it. And I'm saying at age 18 you don't want to try and capture the feeling of withdraw or drug abuse, because it ruins peoples life.

Great movies like Trainspotting were not produced in couple of months. Trainspotting was based off of a novel where the author had experience with the subject. Then the actors worked with real recovering heroin addicts at a recovering center; the recovering heroin addicts were treated as part of the crew and thus received credit in the project.

My point is when your starting out in art try and stick with what you know. Make stuff that relates to you.

There are plenty of other big issues to deal with that an 18 year old might have more experience with. Such as globalization, the crappy economy in America, bad education system, people taking things for granite, and the monolithic culture that Americans seem to share.

Almost any professional writer I know would say write what you know not what you think you know. So I would beg to differ that I'm not wrong on so many levels.

(So you never find your self at an independent film festival saying, "Oh no, not another drug/gang movie" ?)
------
But to the OP your footage is amazing for such a young age, and I'm not trying to discourage your creativity. Just IMO focus on what directly affects your life at first. I apologize if you have been affected by drug abuse. I look forward to seeing future projects from you; and I'm sure this one will be cool none the less.

---

But of course art has no boundaries, but why make art is the question you need to ask oneself.

Really good points artforme. To say the least, we learned a lot doing this project and my feelings are with yours on almost everything you said. Thanks.

I wish you the best at the premier as I'm sure it will be a cool film. I'll look forward to the link.

best

this thing called internet is a really cool place to learn a lot of things when researching for a script or a book nowadays...no need to go out and get "real world" experience

Great production value on that short narrative. Impressive sound, cinematography, lighting, acting, etc.

What was the wattage of that light bulb out of curiosity? It looked really nice.

Keep it up.

Artforme. The wattage was low, maybe 60 or less. I honestly can't remember. Thanks for the feedback.

Vimeo in a week or so. Waiting for the HD to kick back in after this week is over.

Its cool, looks great. And I think the narrative is completely believable. When seeing the behind the scenes footage I thought it was going another direction than what you took it. I'm assuming the drug is an amphetamine which causes anxiety, which you properly, and creatively, conveyed through editing and sound. Also, people of younger age are known for abusing doctor prescribed amphetamines, which make it even more believable. Bravo.

Yes, Artforme. The drug we pretended to use was "Oxycotin". The very popular teen drug. However, neither the actor or directors had any experience with this drug before so we researched great lengths for accuracy. I'm really glad that you liked it. Thank you for complimenting our creativity. :)

Northeastern Ohio for sure!

Martini's lol

We are from Ashtabula but we have been in LA for four months now. Uhhhhio.

i guess you can get anxious from it but the general effect is the opposite. oxycontin is simply the strong opioid pain killer oxycodone held in a structure that releases the drug slowly when taken per os. if you crack the pills you make it faster (and add ways of creative administration mind you) and thus you can get high. it's a pretty bad drug for recreational use because it's not as much fun as "real" opiates (much less euphoria) but shares most of the unwanted side effects, you're likely to stop breathing before the fun kicks in. it's great as a pain killer, really great, but i'd rather just have another beer if it was the party i was after. :-)
