2 min movie with D90

looks good, i love outside shots so much more wish i could get my crew together during daylight hours to do some outside filming.

What lens did you use?

jon!

50mm 1.8 which very good and the cheap 18-55 not happy with
I will advise only use prime lens for filming
The close up's are mostly with the 50mm

I'm not gonna lie to you man, I didn't think it looked that good. Part of it was the camera I think. The codec doesn't like motion and lots of detail and I think it showed in this. Handheld and the D90 don't mix too well and the beginning just dragged on and on and on. Also, did you lock exposure? I thought I caught it changing back and forth on some shots or was that my imagination?

Good effort, keep trying, you'll get it.

actually that's exactly what it does like compared to some other codecs, since it's intraframe it doesn't really care about motion, and since it's constant quality variable bitrate it increases the rate automatically depending on the level of detail. or were you talking about the distribution codec?

so codecs aside, i've watched it now. some really cool shots in there. i enjoyed it. i would have given it a more agressive grade though, it looks a little too "normal" to me, or like video if you will. also some or most shots are overexposed, if you want that bright look it's better to do it in post, you really need to protect those highlights when shooting video, i'm especially talking about her face when the sun hits it, it's blown out in a quite obvious way. i think you should have removed the stairsteps on all shots, it's quite obvious.

(i like her last name)

No Matt, I was talking about the camera's subpar codec which is it's Achilles heel.
If it's supposedly better with motion and detail then I'm not seeing it. I don't get too caught up in numbers and technical comparisons, I like to rely on practical experience and it's my experience that the codec (or the low bitrate) holds this camera back.

that's because it always sucks. most codecs fall apart when there's motion and detail, notably avchd and hvd, while the d90 just keeps sucking at the same quality level as before. :-) seriously, that's how the constant quality scheme works. when there's more to compress the datarate automatically goes up, when there's less it goes down.

I love this response.

Thanks for the reply's guy's !!
I doubt about to shoot the motion frames with the hvx and a stabilsator but won't also see the limit's of this camera.
And been little bit disappointed also the lens 18-55 can not do this work loose to much detail but I 'm still pleased with some close up's and DOF possibilities.
The exposure is to much what ever I do in this circumstances but also give more surrealistic enviroment that's ok here.
All in I try give a some kind a feeling with this nice camera that thinks me movies from 70 's and then is not only the sharpnes that count but more difference things

Looks good to me. I would recommend color correcting, especially in the beginning. When switching back and fourth between her hand close up and the still shot of her walking towards you there is a huge difference in the color (greens turn to brown).

Shouldn't be too hard to fix though.

Also, on a more personal side, the transition from shaky to extremely still in the beginning definitely wasn't too pleasing. Maybe make your tripod shot a pan, or otherwise try just making everything shaky or handheld in that part?

Cheers,
Ryan
