2 gb limit error

hey i need some serious help and i tried googling this to death and found nothing. i'm running avid media composer on OS tiger on my macbook pro. i'm trying to export a clip out to after effects, it's not even 30 seconds. file format shot in 720p/24p. framerate at 24 frames. this was not shot 24pN, so it's technically 59.97. i'm trying to export this clip uncompressed to after effects and vice versa to maintain all the quality. i'm getting an error everytime saying i have hit a 2 gb file limit. it's uncompressed quicktime not avi, and i'm putting it on a mac os journaled hard drive, so it's not a fat 32 issue. is it the version of quicktime i'm running? i have no idea, so any input would be great.

i could, but i still need to know what the problem is, because eventually i'm going to be exporting my entire 20 minute short as uncompressed to re encode onto dvd... i need to know how to solve this problem. and there has to be a better way then segmenting the film...

You could use another QT reference to encode for the DVD.

Just saying. I understand the need to solve the problem, but if it comes down to it, these are viable workarounds.

What are your exact export settings? What codec are you using?

custom resolutoin settings, 1280x720, compression none with avid codec turned on (have also tried it with it turned off) as a quicktime movie, color settings (forget the exact name off the top of my head, at work right now) the one not RGB. could it be my version of quicktime? i should be running the one before 7.5, as i know it's not compatible w/ avid at the moment. and i've outputted quicktime files 10x as big before, this is the first time i'm running into this issue and i don't know if im just being stupid and forgot a step all of a sudden.

Ok.

I can tell you that as long as you aren't running higher than 7.4.1, you should be fine for Quicktime. If you did the recent upgrade to 7.5 I'm not so sure.

In your export settings, have you looked under the format button?

format should be quicktime... i'll check back tonight when i get home. stay tuned and thanks for the input, deadline is coming soon and its driving me nuts

Quicktime is a wrapper, not a codec. When you click on the format button next to the Custom button, you will see a box pop up with the codec settings, along with sound settings and we options. Let me know what it says there when you get home.

I ran into a similar problem last night on a PC. A student was trying to export a 2 min clip to Sonic DVD. Kept getting a fatal error when ever we tried exporting a quick time. Not being an editor and not extremly familiar with Avid, I thought maybe it was a quick time issue. So I tried exporting as an AVI. File size was too large, I'm gussing the hard drive setup. Is there any known good setting for exporting to go to DVD?

ok two try to tackle two things at once. first things first, i solved my problem. it was simple, but retarded cuz it never used to be an issue. for some reason w/ the recent upgrades from 2.7 and above more and more bugs have been cropping up. when you export you absolutely have to render first, i know i should have done that but all i had was a flip effect on since it was unflipped 35 adapter footage. didn't pay attention to that, my bad. second, under the size/resolution settings and aspect ratio it all has to match. the first menu (i shot 720p) i set to 1280x720 dimensions, and 16x9 aspect. then u click the format button and you click the button SIZE. in size the dimensions didn't match, and there lied the problem. it never used to be for me, but i think that's the bug, it was still doing 720x480 there and i think the conflict caused the bug to crop up.

now the second problem, is ur student running avid to export or another program? there are several ways to do it, if it's final cut, you can export out using compressor as dvd files already and bring it into any dvd burning software. if it's avid, try the things i listed to see if that helps, u can also try using other codecs like Animation, that's also very very close to being completely lossless.

if you are running quicktime 7.5, you need to downgrade, avid does not support the newest quicktime version.

avi has file size limitation of 2 gb. crappy i know.

if ur on pc, make sure it's all ntfs formatted drives ur compressing to, fat32 has a 4 gb limitation i believe.

if it's mac journaled, it shouldn't even be an issue. quicktime has no file size limitation, the fixed that many years ago, so the problem is in the NLE itself.

i did a lot of research today...

second, under the size/resolution settings and aspect ratio it all has to match. the first menu (i shot 720p) i set to 1280x720 dimensions, and 16x9 aspect. then u click the format button and you click the button SIZE. in size the dimensions didn't match, and there lied the problem.
I get not rendering would be an issue, but this doesn't jive for me. I have (on many occasions) exported out with unmatched sizes. However, the best way (if this really is the problem, which I doubt) to solve this, would be o set the size under your format tab to "Compressor Native". Then you will never have a conflict. Unless of course you change presets.

i don't know, ever since i upgraded to version 2.8, it's been more buggy then ever. i did that and it worked, out of nowhere. now i did a test w/ my entire timeline following the same rule set i made for myself...and i got the same error. so i did a video and audio mixdown and exported like that. it worked. avid has been getting more screwy by the version and it gets on my nerves. and does anybody know what an L1 track is? it happens when u double click ur footage on timeline. it only happens in 2.7 or above.

just to add if anybody else ever run into this problem. if what i suggested still doesn't work, mixdown your video and sound. that should do the trick too.
