2 files out of 63 corrupted - HVX / FS

I captured 63 clips today that were shot using the HVX and the FS-100. Settings were at 720p/60. Using Avid to cut.

2 out of the 63 clips were corrupted. At first I thought it was the dreaded "Audio not same lenght as video" problem where removing one frame at the tail of the clip fixes it, but alas it was not.

Once I cut the clip into the timeline it still gave the pmm_insufficient_data error, but I did an "add edit" and though all was well. Not so. Once I started playing the file I realized some craziness was going on. There was first about a 3 second gap that just dropped out, then it caught back up then there was some digital distortion, but then it caught up again. Finally at the tail of the clip the last 5-8 seconds is repeated about 4 times.

Both clips exhibit the same problem and oddly they are back to back. No other clip has any problems.

Any ideas? I wasn't on set so I don't know if there were problems or anything, but I won't know till tomorrow.

We use SpeedEDIT and not AVID so I'm only guessing here. Have you tried to look at those 2 clips in P2 Viewer? This would eliminate AVID as the culprit.
What is the issue with the extra frame of Audio? Is that an AVID thing or DVCPro issue?

I wouls see if adjusting the speed of the clip, (or any other tweaking of the clip), might help AVID read more fo the data properly. If you can get the file to play at all, render that as a new file and you would at least have most of it.
I wish you luck with this.

Was loud, percussive music or heavy vi bration involved? That's been the source of all my FS dropout problems. There's no fix for it, unfortunately.

Hello again,

To TedRR - P2 Viewer did not play the clip back correctly. The audio issue is a Firestore problem that was appearantly fixed with V3 or V4 software updates.

To Mpalmer - You are correct sir. After talking to the DP, the FS took a short fall during that time...go figure. At least I know it's not a random problem....

Thanks for the input both of you.

Yeh, it bites to lose a couple clips, but it really bites to not know why it happened knowing it could get you at any time.
Glad you got it figured out.
