2 channels mix down in HMC 150

The audio on most AVCHD cameras is mixed down to stereo automatically upon log and transfer. Does this mean that you cannot achieve 2 independent audio channels when editing with footage shot on the HMC150? Perhaps there is a preference setting in log and transfer that allows independent mono tracks. Has anyone experienced this?

Thank you.

There's really no difference in FCP between 2 mono and 1 stereo track, and you can switch back and forth between them at will. There's no "downmixing" - the HMC always takes 2 inputs, and provides two tracks. In the Log and Transfer window, on the right side, there's a set of tabs that say something like "Logging" and "Clip Settings"... the clip settings tab may let you specify whether to treat the audio as stereo or two mono by default (it lets you do this with P2, but I don't recall if the option is there for AVCHD). At any time, in the FCP timeline, select the audio tracks and toggle stereo vs. dual mono mode via the modify menu ("Link Stereo") (there's a keystroke - maybe cmd-option-L?).

The only difference between stereo and mono is that stereo is panned left and right by defailt, whereas two mono tracks are panned center by default; and filters, gain changes, etc. will be applied to both stereo channels by default, while they are applied separately to each mono channel.

First I apologise for my english, that´s not perfect.
Well, I am a new user. What I did in Premier was change the preferences. I marked "mono" insted "stereo", then the 2 channels were put separeted. I never saw "log and tranfer" in Premier.
The tutorial shows exctely what I did.

I wasn't criticizing your English, it's fine! I just assumed you were using FCP because you used the phrase "Log and Transfer", and was wondering if that was a bad assumption (that is, if other software used the same phrase for the ingest process).
