2 airplane flight demo at 48 fps

Indeed. I would love to get a cockpit shot from behind the pilot... like my friend got inside an F-16 flying over the Tampa bay bucks football game. He shot it at 150fps and it looks unbelievable because alll around the jet was fireworks going off and it was maybe 10 seconds long but... the coolest looking stuff ever!


I also can't wait to get a water-housing for the HVX... now that will rock!

I shot loads of WWII vintage aircraft in the eighties.
All on 3/4" I lugged the camera and deck all over.
Did a bunch of air to air and air to ground.
To bad HD was not around then!!
I know a Pitts special owner and he has shot with
a Mini DV bolted to his plane.
This summer we are set too shoot with the HVX,
doing loops and rolls!!
I will not be in the plane!!
 
Well Mike if you come to Florida maybe I can beg my buddy to let me borrow his microwave video transmitter. Will broadcast up to 4 miles and he uses it for video assist on boats.. planes and places where it's hazadous for clients to hang out in...


Sounds like some great footage. I too started my video career back on 3/4 when I first got to film school.. and some in high school. Boy am I glad that's a dinosaur... and happy to see Beta going the way of the do-do as well... I'd much rather shoot with something small and lightweight..


So.. is everyone sending ya footage...? IF not, they should.. Mike's got something going that's really cool ya'll. Hook the brother up..

We will try to post stuff when we get a critical mass.
Next week will bring almost 100 new clips.
Many shooters signed up are going on neat places
for summer vacations and promising fab footage.....

Nice stuff. Only one comment/question. What was your shutter speed? The reason I ask is that propeller driven aircraft need more motion blur on their props. Next time try 1/24 to 1/60th. With the slow mo, maybe even less.

But fun to watch.

Thanks for the feedback. I think it was a 1/500 or possibly even 1/1000. I kind of float back and forth between the two slow and fast shutter. I like the stroby look... and then I like the blur as well. Like on the demo footage, I have that shot of the helicopter at 1/2000 and I just love the paterns the blades make...

Basically this cam has me friggin excited about shooting again. I'm like I was in 99 when I got the XL1. Just willing to shoot for the sake of shooting.. and because the quality was so impressive.... Also the 16x9 aspect ratio is so much more pleasing.. and overall the workflow is SWEET.


I have some IRL racing that I'm working on now and if the client is cool.. I'll post it up here. I went mostly with a fast shutter just as a personal preference with that.. Just so damn impressed with how this camera handles motion....
 
LOL... That was shot with my monopod at the top of a bleachers way back in the grandstand... I wish I had a picture of that precarious spot that I was in.. It was also windy and packed with race fans so space was a premium... But all in all, I've gotten pretty darn good at shooting with the monopod- and this was a monopod I picked up at Walmart just before the race for 20 bucks as I left mine at another gig. If I had my sticks.. I'd have nailed the entire shot without a doubt... but there's a couple of stutters, and several other segments that were too sketchy... but overall not to bad.


For my support, I bought a great bogen head 3066 or 3036, I believe, and manfrotto legs. It's designed for a big boy camera, but that's what I like in sticks.. Too many people I know bought that 501 head, which I think is crap and was more money than my used 3066. That 501 just seems too light and flimsy and unable to do feather smooth moves.


I want the sticks to be big.. heavy... and able to take a punch... Just like my woman. JK all.... late and a long day!
