2 AF100s -- How would you grow (HPX250 vs. 160)?

Yes, P2 is essentially 4 SD cards in a RAID array. But we're talking price per GB here. So a 64GB P2 card costs about 6 times more than a 64GB SD card.

If the price of a 64GB P2 cards costs 6 times the price of a 16GB SD card (as in your example, 16GB x 4 = 64GB), I don't think anybody would be complaining.

Well actually, if I'm not mistaken the SD cards are in a RAID 1 array, thus in order to equal 64GB it's actually four 32GB SD cards. So you'd have to compare it to the cost of a 128 GB SD card if you want to talk about equivalent price. Sure cost per useable GB is higher (since the P2 card only has half the space available for actual use), but you're looking at a more secure environment with the RAID 1 array. SD card fails when used by itself, your screwed. One of the SD cards fails in a P2 card, you're likely safe from any data loss.

You're both mistaken, there are no SD cards in a P2 card. That was the way the original 4GB and 8GB cards were made, but there haven't been SD cards in there since the "R" series debuted, four or five years ago. Now they use the core memory components, and more of them, raided together faster so that they're up to 1200mbps.

While it can be argued that "as compared to SD they're just as expensive", that kind of misses the point, doesn't it? It used to be that the cards were so expensive that the average producer could only afford maybe one or two 8-gb cards. Now, anyone can afford a couple of 64GB cards. So whereas it used to be price-restrictive to record longform events, now it's trivial.

Well, I wouldn't consider it "trivial" for low-dollar bottom-feeders like me, but it's at least reasonable.

If it were me, I would buy the AC160 as it does the same variable frame rates as the AF100, the HPX250 does not have the over crank in 1080. Operational structure (menus) are similar to the AF100 as well. The 250's menus are like the 370. So yes both of these cameras do have the HPX370 chipset, but they are sufficiently different that youreally should take the time to understand the difference.

Best,

Jan

Thanks! I was leaning in that direction...good to hear support for that.
