2:35 or similar crop marks possible?

Hey guys;

Forgive me being a newbie, I'm purchasing this camera in the next 48 hours and I'm interested in the hack big time.

I'm curious though, after reading a lot of handy things you can get with the t2i/550d Magic Lantern hack... such as Cinema crop. Is this possible at all using any form of patch or version of the hack to get a feature like this for the GH1?

i think if this was possible it would have been available by now.

what i suggest and what most people do is... when you get the camera buy a 3 inch LCD screen guard (not the GGS glass ones as they wont fit with the rotating lcd screen)

stick the screen guard on the LCD and within the cameras function you can set a custom guideline, we will use this to find where the 2:35.1 crop lines should appear.

with the custom guideline editable (yellow crosshair) put it as far to the bottom as it goes, then click up on the directional pad 28 times, draw first line with a permanent fine line pen.

repeat with guideline at top and click down 28 times, draw line.

that will give you the 2:35.1 crop you want, id suggest a red of green pen for a little transparency as black is too solid and distracting.

It's a shame this sort of mod isn't available or doable with this camera. It's no big deal breaker, as you've given a simple DIY solution for this.

no probs mate, i guess because there is a simple DIY way maybe a tech method is overkill, altho i know what you mean tho i always wanted it in camera too :smile:

if you want the cinema ratio why not check out the user lpowell's hacks, i think he has one for shooting 2:35.1 without cropping the image height or using anamorphic adapters.

squeezes the image onto the sensor and when you de-squeeze in your editor you get a nice cinema ratio, check it out if you haven't already.
