I have tried searching for the answer to this, but what is the correct way to place a 2.35:1 over a 16x9 sequence?

Also, once done, is the proper way to bring a 2.35:1 sequence to DVD is by encoding it 16x9 WITH the black bars or is there a way to do it nativly?

Since 2.35/2.40 is not the same aspect ratio as 16:9 (1.77) there will always be black bars. There will just be less black when in 16:9 that when in 4:3.

Download the HD Test Chart from Belle-Nuit at:

Import into your project and no not select preserve aspect ratio. You want this file to full height anamorphic once imported. Cut into your sequence with your monitors set to 16:9. The create a custom matte that matched the 2.35 aspect markers on the file.

I just took a closer look at the test file and it does not have a 2.35 graticule on it. I took the liberty of adding one to the test file. Send me a private email with your email address and I will send it to you.
