I know most of you know your own way of cropping your footage to get the 2.35:1 aspect ratio, but if some of you don't here is a easy way for you to achieve the easiest editing control over your 4x3 footage.
Right click and Save As for proper aspect ratio in a 4x3 editor
www.tassweb.com/papa/235areamap.jpg
Here is a sample of what it looks like. ( may not be correct aspect from the upload provider )
- Open in video 2 or empty video line/layer. Chroma Key it, White.
- Next step, Set that layers oppacity to 50%
You can now easily frame your 4x3 footage into a 2.35:1 area aspect ratio. This allows you to see what is above and bellow the frame as well as giving you freedom to move your picture up and down to correctly frame your footage.
When you have completed editing your piece, export it as is and re enter it into your editor, its there you will add the black bars to the section of the footage the require it, in premier pro its 22 on top and 22 on bottom.
Now, for those who are wondering what the best way to shoot your footage setting those black bars in place to correctly frame for 2.35:1 editing.
HEre is a picture of my setup.
What I've done is connected my camera to my editor and stayed on a frame with the 235areamap jpg at 50% opacity. This let me put rubber bands around the frame of my lcd screen, allowed me to level them off, and gently write a small pen mark on the plastic edges of the lcd allowing me quicker setup times in the future.
kew!
Again, i know many of you know how to do it well, i just find this might help some people who dont exactly know the best way of going around it.
