2:3 pulldown is 2:3:2:3
Advanced pulldown is 2:3:3:2
Advanced pulldown is an extra frame inserted to convert 24 to 30 fps. Since this can be just dropped it's fast and easy for an editing program to do it on the fly and and it means that none of the frames has to be resaved and compressed. That's why you shoot this mode if you're goign to end with 24fps
2:3:2:3 provides smoother motion but takes soem of the frames and interlaces them together such that a program has to de-interlace, recompress and resave to do the conversion.
That's why it's best when editing in 29.97 timeline.
