2/3 lens adapter from Abel Cine

Some time ago. $5500 and "Consumes only two stops of light."

I just tried a $320 B4 adapter with my Fuji HD 2/3" ENG lens.... some soft vignetting, very small amount of resolution falloff at the edges. Didn't see any CA. Near as I can figure, turns my ENG lens into a 30-300 MFT equiv for the AF. Speed was slightly faster than the 14-140. Can't wait to get it powered up!

I think the Abel adapter is the best zoom lens solution for the AF. It's not about money, it's about having a sharp, good quality zoom (my B4 lenses don't have a doubler, for the very good reason that there is a significant quality loss even with 2/3"). This camera can stand a 2500 ISO, so the f4 isn't a huge deal. And for those who must always have the shallow DOF, the iris is still f1.7 (or whatever). The only reason I haven't sprung for it yet is I'm waiting for another zoom lens, designed specifically for the AF, to be announced.. but it looks like it's going to be a very long wait - like never.

Also - why is this type black now? I can barely read what I've written!

The ibe/abelcine HDx2 adapter is pricey but as I see it with this adapter you can turn the AF into a 2/3" ENG camera and it that respect it's an okay price. There's a nature photographer Rolf Steinman using 2/3" lens on his Alexa to capture nature and wildlife and I think it's unique to get such an extensive zoom lens on something like a large sensor camera. But it's expensive at $4800 for the micro 4/3 version and yes you can use the 2x extender on 2/3" lenses and get the same zoom range but with fall off of sharpness and resolution depending on the lens you use and where at the focal you use such a lens.

I find it interesting so I'm exploring the possibilities and trying out different lenses to see if there's something worth while for my AF101.

What about issues with CCD designed lenses or the three-chip prism block that 3 chip cameras have. Is this an issue? Wouldn't a single chip camera not capture the image in the same way and have some kind of negative effect?

It's not about money...

uhhh..... I have no words for that......

well, my mortgage bank might.....

As to why an extender on an ENG lens.... simply enough, sometimes you just can't move closer and the shot must be. We're not talking hard-mount cameras with 60x glass as big as dinner plates... this is do-it-all glass that goes on my shoulder. (But you're OK with 2500 ISO?)

Erik, I ain't no optical guru, but the Fuji from my 3-chip camera looked pretty darn good on the AF (far from perfect, of course), so the answer to your question is "nope".

Yeah, what SNP said. :)

Yes. It can cause a rainbow-like chromatic abberation, especially towards the edges. It can also cause all of one color channel or another to render slightly out of focus. Image slightly defocussing just your reds or the blues. The HDx2 B4/PL Optical Adapter corrects for this.

The $320 Cieceo7 B4-MFT adaptor from Poland via eBay is expertly machined and works perfectly with my 2/3" Fujinon 8-120 f1.7 zoom lens. Click in the 2x extender and I have a very sharp 16-240 lens at f3.4. I highly recommend this adaptor and with the money I saved I can make my truck payments for 13 months.

Do you have any pics of your system , how do you mount the 2/3 lens on to your rod system there are not many attachment options

In my test on my lens, the vignetting was the most noticeable artifact. Didn't notice any CA, because after seeing the vignetting, I realized this was going to be the major issue.

If you're looking for a perfect (or close to it) image from a B4 lens on an AF, no, an adapter without optics isn't going to do it.

Oh, the B4 adapter from eBay now comes with a post to mount onto a rail block, to take the strain off the camera mount.

Thanks for that, I guess its subjective but just how bad is the vignetting with the x2 in, do you have a screen shot

Lens from my HPX2000 Fuji 17x7 HD, Ciecio Adapter, Cavision support
and Rods, Red Rock Lens Support.

I just received my AB power adapt from Abel and got the lens power cable from ebay. Will post some video later this pm.
I love this rig. and find the video quality is very good.

Thanks for posting I might go that route I have a Canon 8-160 F1.7 2/3 lens.. I must look up the Abel power adapter and the eBay lead, Do you have any vignetting issues when the lens is fully wide (with the x2 in)

Well, it's an old saying - you get what you pay for. When I put a zoom lens on this camera, I want it to be capable of doing more than shoot a hawk in flight - I have a bunch of telephoto lenses for that... With a zoom I want to be able to move from a TCU to a clean wide shot; shooting into a hot light source without an objectionable flare; walk behind someone as he enters a house and zoom in to a CU of his hands as he opens a briefcase; move from a MCU of a helicopter pilot's face to a wide shot of the landing site below; A zoom lens that can do those things well is going to cost some money... but I'd rather have one of those than five of these pathetic digital still camera lenses.

Guys I agree, if the money situation improves I'll buy the Abel Cine adaptor, but at the moment the Ciecio adaptor is within budget, Mule if you have any Vimeo examples that we could watch would be great

I think we all want that and its kind of frustrating that to get it cost so much money. I'm thinking buying the adapter and renting the B4 lenses might make more sense for me. Man I want a broadcast lens on my AF-100 really bad!

How much was the power adapter from Abel? I found the proper Hirose jack, and thinking I'll wire Start/Stop as well as DC. Maybe even Indexing.

I wonder what the difference is between our Fuji's, Mule.... mine is the same, except with a M58B suffix.

BTW, very nice backyard.
