2/3" B4-mount lenses on AF100, complete ENG kit concept

Actually think its a great idea. I had one of these lenses on an HPX500 and being a 2/3" chip camera there was a higher x factor. But this straight is a 2x so 7.6 becomes 15.2, pretty awesome. And theres some incredible lenses to be had at a cheaper rental than a cine zoom.

how much would such a package cost? oops: $8,404.21 plus camera and lens ? the only problem I see is the shoulder pad, looks like we are close! the zooms are all fast. but in the end it looks like a 15-25 k$ package depending on the zoom lens price....not close!

Keep in mind that you will lose two stops of lens speed with the adapter. So a typical f2 2/3" will become an f4. The adapter is a good thing also because it corrects CA for using a 3-chip prism lens on a single chip camera.

Abel Cine Tech ENG to AF100 8” Y-cable is all i would need since I have enough to make the eng lens work. gotta a price on this baby yet?

I knew you mad scientists at abel were cooking something up

Yeah, we have it in the system somewhere. Somewhere around a few hundred bucks. Thr Hirose-12 to the lens is the tough part 'cause it's such a pain to solder.

The most important part of the system is the HDx2. Do you own one of these?

I have the b4 to pl from red and hot rod pl adapter which covers 2k on the red so that should work

No it won't. That adapter adds just a tiny bit of magnification as it was originally designed to get a B4 mount lens (image circle 11mm) to cover a Super-16 image area (14.7mm image circle). But the image circle of the AF100 is almost 22mm, so your adapter will vingette.

And suffer dramatically lower quality images. An internal doubler is designed to magnify the image for the 11mm image circle of the 2/3" video format. It may or may not mechanically allow for the projection coverage out to 22mm. And the optical design is for that inner area. Once outside of that "sweet spot" the falloff in resolution, contrast, chromatic abberation, etc. can be dramatic. The internal doubler does not correct for 3-chip optical design (that's what B4 is) to a single chip sensor like the AF100, where all three color channels need to land on the same depth plane. And lastly the physical mount on the AF100 is rather lightweight, so if you took some little adapters to get your 2/3" zoom on the camera and then tried to puick it up using the lens' servo handgrip, you could very well rip that mount right off the camera.

There's a big, big difference between them.

That's true of the Abel's device as well.. In fact, it freaked me out when I saw him support the rig with the lens.

As an old film guy I'm not comfortable using the lens as a handle anyway (I've removed the zoom motor from the lens on my 500).

That (Abel's) setup with I nice grip/switch (I use my old Aaton grip) would be very functional.. those who insist on powered zooms might disagree, but I like a manual zoom - you can snap in to focus then compose quickly - wish it wasn't $7,000 though.

If one used the right lens support and Abel provided a m43 mount B4 lens adapter I would buy. As is, I would rent.

Ok so the b4 to pl wont work. But this other adapter loses 2 stops of light so that makes the eng lens thats probably f 1.7 at best a 2.8?

If it's $7K, whats the point? I could just buy a separate servo zoom camera at that cost. It's pretty much a curiosity if Abel is pricing it that high.

How is everyone arriving at $7K, I thought the lens adapter was around $5500 msrp.
Are you including the Hot Rod adapter?
I agree this adapter is a bit "steep" in price, but remember if you have a high quality B4 mount lens this might be a good option.
You can always take your B4 lens and the HDx2 adapter and mount it to an Alexa, F3, Red,etc.

I mean, its cool. But pretty much aimed at those who already have a B4 lens.

Which is what a lot of you are missing . I have a killer Angenieux HD wide angle I would love to put on my AF-100.

If this solution enables servo zoom, start/stop, and covers the AF100's image sensor, I would be all over it.

it's funny, people complain about there not being a servo zoom for the af-100, and then Abel comes out with a solution and everyone bitches at the price.

You can't win.
