1D MKIV Slowmotion backwards

Ok so most people know how to shoot a singer in slow motion but have it in-time/sync with footage shot in 60fps to a 250% speeded up song

any ideas how I can do this backwards?...as in, if i want to reverse something in the video shot at 60fps to a 250% speeded up song...but still have the singer singing the right words as if he wasnt getting reversed also

hope that makes sense? ha

Maybe I'm missing something, but why can't you simply unlink the audio and video tracks in post and reverse only the video track. Of course, the singer will never be lipped-synced with the audio if the video of him or her is reversed, but the soundtrack is not. If you want to reverse only a portion of the video track, but not the singer, you will have to do some compositing, but exactly what you would need to do is hard to say without a more detailed explanation than you have in your initial post.

Good luck,
Kevin

Hi Kevin

thanks for replying...sorry if i wasnt too clear but basically i want feathers falling from the sky (i'll reverse this so when viewing the video there going upwards not falling) but i want the singer singing the chorus in the same clip ...but for his mouth to match the words in time with the song.. will he have to somehow lipsync this to a backwards song? haha

You just have to export the reversed 250% song from your editor at 48khz/16bit, play it back for the artist. and have him come as close as possible to lip syncing to it.

haha... had a feeling it was gonna be easy

man its hard enough sometimes to get the artist to sing along to just a 250% speeded up song rather then it be backwards

thanks again so much for your time

Great examples of how it's done well, basically gotta put a lot of faith into your artist to make sure they can learn it backwards. Chris Martin spent something like 3 weeks practicing it so it was perfect.
Also, this is a very good example of keeping things simple, not using fancy post-prod techniques and actually just nailing it on the day. Good luck!

ah man I remember that cool Drop video...that was crazy...cant believe Chris Martin spent 3 weeks learning it backwards, thats dedication man! :)

He seems to be quite involved with their music promos, that Strawberry Swing video took something like 3 days of him lying down on the floor while Shynola shot stills

There was a band in the early 90's called Nelson (The late Ricky Nelson's twin sons and brothers to actress Tracy Nelson) who did this in the video I'll post the link to below. It has the normal performing to an over cranked audio track then slowing everything down to normal in post that you mentioned, and it has the performing to a reversed audio track then flipped around normal but I don't think it has both at the same time. In the latter technique in the vid, the guitar player would have had to learn his guitar solo backwards (2:30) and the singers would have had to learn their lyrics backwards for one of the closing stage shots you can see at 3:45... which coincidentally also has your backwards falling feathers ;)

I know, I know... the hair, I'm sure they're pretty embarrased about it now too ;)
