1998-99: You're living in a simulation

1998-99, in a 15-month period, famously there were at least 5 movies about simulation: Dark City, The Truman Show, The Matrix, Existenz, and The Thirteenth Floor. How many have you seen?

I saw existenz and 13th floor in theatres initially. Haven’t seen dark city. Out of the four Existenz was the most interesting. Maybe time to revisit and see how it holds up.

Open Your Eyes was remade into Vanilla Sky. Of the 5 I mentioned, Existenz is the only one I haven't seen, and Dark City is my favorite.

I saw all of them and loved them. At that time I watch about 150 films a year so I didn`t miss many films.

Unless I’m misremembering or projecting I saw an Argentine film that fell in this category. I saw it within a few weeks of seeing open your eyes 98? and noted similarities at the time. Outside of a car chase in desert cant remember anything else about it.

I would consider The Truman Show the most intelligent and fully realized of the group. I would also say it holds up the best over time.
