17" Field Monitor?

I've tried the Ikan VX17e and it's not bad. Pretty affordable as well but I have heard many horror stories about Ikan reliability.

Just bought the OSEE 15.6" and it's super nice and a great price but it's not quite big enough for my clients. It's more of a small-medium sized shoot setup.

I need this 17" monitor to have the basic requirements. HD, SDI, HDMI, a plexi-screen and a case.

Having a hard time finding anything that's not $3k or the Ikan.

Tips?

I bought my monitor from the company that makes the Ikan ones, NEWAY, they are great to deal with and when I encountered a problem with my field monitor they shipped me a replacement and I had it in under a week from China. They are also significantly less expensive than the Ikan branded product. The just released a 28" 4K monitor complete with carrying case and impressive specs:
Specification:
*3840X2160 Resolution and LED Backlight
*300cd/m2 brightness,1000:1 contrast
*3D-SDI,HDMI,VGA,DVI,Audio
*Metal housing for good protection
*Carry -on suitcase for better portability
*Support 4K 60Hz,30Hz

I don't see a "17 on that site.

"28 is nice and all but lugging that around to a lot of shoots sounds tricky! Thanks for the feedback though!

Not a lot of interest in this particular topic?

What is everyone else using for client-monitoring to a c-stand or similar on-set?

Travis, our jvc hd-sdi monitor just gave out on us, we are also looking for a new solution, how accurate are the colors on that OSEE?

Colors are pretty accurate. Actually, it's a great monitor. It's just a wee-bit too small for some of my larger shoots. It's up for sale if you're interested.

Unless of course, I can't find a replacement! :)

Not really a pro filed monitor per se, but I take a Samsung 22" HDTV with an adjustable VESA mount adapted to a baby mount - it's just HDMI but fine for my type of clients -

I mention this for the "hugging around" problem - I found a soft iMac case that works fine - I added some 1/8 (luan) plywood sheets for more protection inside. It cost more than the TV but it will last me my next 6 monitors I'd guess.

For packing monitors, also check the musician shops... there are tons of mixer and keyboard bags and cases. They're way more mass-market than our gig, so usually there are very affordable options if you hunt around, vs a purpose-made on-set monitor case which is priced as high-end specialty gear.

+1 ... I use the Panasonic BT-LH1850. Lovely images. I bought it new somewhere around $2200, I think. Then added the Matthews mount to use it w/ c-stand on location.
It pulls double-duty for me since I also use it as a reference monitor for editing/grading. My biggest complaints are that it has a place for plexi-type protection, but it doesn't come with. And, the case that Panasonic wants for it is outrageously priced... I use pluck foam w/ an HRPC case that also pulls double-duty for other gear when not needing the good monitor.

Looks nice! Can you run it off a battery in the field though?

Ummm… the "with sony v-mount" in the headline may give you a clue...

Or this: "The monitor can be powered via the Sony V mount plate, the 12 VDC port, or a male 4-pin XLR connector. There are three handles incoporated into the monitor, two on the front and one in the rear providing ease of transfer from in or out of the case. The included aluminum case provides robust protection for field monitoring, travel and storage."

Hi Michael, thanks for the response! Though if you read my quote, I'm referring to the Panasonic BT-LH1850, not the Came TV monitor ;)

I see a VESA mount on the Panny but no good place for a V-mount adapter.
