16x9 QT Clip Doughnut Wedding

A little to fast, most clients for weddings arent look for your experpise in editing, just want a smooth video.

Fantastic work!

Fantastic work!

Flyerland,

I just watched it with Jennifer (my wife) and we loved it!. Typical wedding work puts me to sleep. Your editing is flat out great. Typical wedding work I've seen (even from some respected pros) is so bad... way too longish cuts... way too linear and ultimately (after a couple viewings) boring.

Your style is fresh and I could watch this piece several times and stay interested precisely because the cuts are on the slightly quick side. It makes the eye stay with the action. It makes you want just a bit more... and that's a good thing.

I also think you sound mix was really good. The music worked very well and the way it underpined the spoken audio really increased the overall emotional effect. I wish I could see a final edit because I'm blown away by your rough version.

Yes boring to you, if its your wedding would you want tons of fast cuts? I know if I was editing or being in a wedding video I would want the focus to be on the wedding, boring as it may be its the memory not how awesome the memory was editing together, or how intense it was.

I think it was great, but the format is more suited for a recap of the entire wedding. and then make a "boring" longer version. I am all about shorter high impact wedding videos, but it is so hard to sell them without the longer version. But like I said, It looked good, some great editing, capture the moment then move move move.

yes i would definitely love a video just like this for myself. i mean you could always scan the raw footage if you wanted to relive the whole (boring) experience. everybody knows that these wedding videos almost never get watched more than a couple of times. why? because they are boring, nicely edited, home videos. this one was more like a movie. very inspiring in my opinion. music was great, loved the drama with the stressed out guy giving directions. liked that most shots were candid and quick and cutting in interesting shots of flowers, parts of the building etc. was a nice touch. very cinematic. i hate wedding videos but i watched this one twice.

you are right about the memories being important but memories live in your mind, not on tape. i think this style of video is perfect for refreshing the memories without reviewing every single moment (boring).

for the most part it was a nice video. definately could use some more full shots, rather than close ups. thing is in a wedding video, people want to see whats going on everywhere, not just isolated to close up shots between key people. although that has it's place, seems that because the camera was so intimately framed, it took me out of the event. if nothing else, more shots with larger groups of people and longer captures, rather than so many quick ones. just a suggestion.

i fully agree with tktk but i must say its a pretty nice wedding video and i like the song you picked but you do need some longer full shots.

Nice job.

My favorite shot was them unloading the stuff from the car.

Why?

It was a Saab

I liked the song as well. Was it original? You have to watch out using music with royalties. Music corporations do NOT kid around.

thanks for the replys - always like a good mix of strong and bad.
It is a rough cut and I'm aware of the cuts and will make corrections - I usually like to make a solid rough cut then come back and refine a week or so later with a fresh eye - I usually have a harder time cutting to music at the beginning of the song, then a minute or so in I can get the rhythm down right on the first pass. One thing I hate it MUSIC ONLY edits for wedding videos, so I guess I also get overly anxious just cutting to music, waiting for a VO clip, then settle down.

I usually do not prefer to use a lot of wide shots like other videos - it is boring, plus I think it's more intimate closeup - though one or two more wide shots should probably be thrown in for better transitions cutting from room to room. Frankly I view film/video more as a memory manipulator - I think just showing them a tiny bit will make them jog their memories of what happened a bit more so the video's more interactive and start conversations between family members.

This is still a rough cut, so I will refine it - I myself am not overly happy with it either.

you are going to hate me but here is my take: The composition of shots I liked, however, it is completely obvious that you edited with markers in the timeline by the too often consecutive cuts to the music...and....the fade in from music to dialogue is too pushed. For some reason it doesnt jive together this way...I know what you were shooting for especially with the Jeff Buckley: a tear jerker like in the movies where dialogue creeps in ever so slightly over a sad song. It didnt work here..maybe if you tweek around with it more-just seems forced overall.

Don't see how it's completely obvious when i did not use markers. The Bride and Groom picked the song, which I didn't even know what the song was, so I'm not really going for anything to mimic whatever movie used that song.

composition and choice of shots is totally up to you. your taste. nothing wrong with it, just giving some suggestions. sometimes one has to understand that if it's work is done at a personal level, one does as one wants. if done for a client, you have to make it to their liking. understood it's a rough cut. post finished later. cheers
