16x24 Studio Advise Please

My company is moving in June and once we move I'll have the use of a 16x24 room for filming our training videos. The room comes stock with a 9 foot ceiling but if it was really important, I could have the ceiling as high as 12 feet or so.

I don't have much experience producing training videos but the test footage I have produced to date using a pair of HVX200's and some Lowel lighting has been fantastic. The HVX200 does a wonderful job of capturing the computer screen and it looks great even when output to SD on DVD.

My question is .... since we are in the building stage of the new office, should I really push for higher ceilings - or wider room? I suppose that if the ceiling were high enough, I could have an overhead rack system of some sort to hold video or still photography lighting.

All I need to do in this room is film. I will do the post production elsewhere.

Your suggestions are welcome.

depends on how the room is set up... 9 foot is ok but if you can get 12, go for it!

do you ever do greenscreen work. you need a MINIMUM of 16 feet from the screen to the camera in order to get a really good and even key.

how is the room as far as sound goes? id be as or more concerened about that.
i moved into a beautiful old office building last year only to find that the street its on is a major thouroughfare for fire/ambulance vehicles. and next to a middle school and a nursing home, so a bell rings every time the light changes... so shooting here became a non-starter...

I agree with the taller room. I'm going to see what I can do.

I'm going to experiment with green screen. I'm hoping the 24' will do.

Thanks.

Mike, take a look at our studio on our website. It might give you some ideas. Go to "facilities"

We have a 20' ceiling and there are times I wish it were higher! :(

I have the 'pleasure' ;) of working for Ted and he is absolutely right, get as much real estate as you can, you'll use it.
Not to mention that being able to set up a light grid will save you a ton of floor space, and let you maintain consistent lighting on the subject, and cyc walls.
