Whatever.
Of course I know convention. But I **cannot** slate in my environment (primarily unstaged work). And so I rely on Aatoncode. Or sometimes just tap the mic (oh, my God!)
And yes, there are ways to do things out of the normal protocol. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.
No, I'm not in this as a business. Yes, I've worked on sets (boring, to me.) It's not about not knowing "proper technique." (read my posts).
And yes, I've learned the rules, too. And yes, one can break them knowing what they are. And yes "art" film can be equally mindless as mainstream copycat films. I know this dialogue. And we've all heard it before. It gets tedious and juvenile.
Being an "expert" is easy. And everyone wants to prove their expertise as some badge of honor. Sometimes one has to do things differently --either out of necessity or desire. And sometimes that can take more skill than learning convention.
From my former teacher's textbook concerning Aatoncode: "...slating is not even a requirement anymore, as synchronization can easily be done in postproduction thanks to the matching real-time address recorded on both the image and sound."
It's been a Godsend to me, and if I can't jam for some reason, then I rely on other things: key sounds or noises or mic taps or whatever works. And it works fine.
That's all.
This thread has become tedious in itself
