It's been awhile since Franck and I have posted anything. The last few videos we posted were all DVX music videos. This one we actually had a budget to shoot on film...NICE!

Here's the outcome - Very surreal / experimental
The artist is Shahrzad Sepanlou, she is Persian and the song is in Farci. Which makes it even more surreal for those who don't understand it.

For those that still love film, Enjoy!

Mojo Likey. Of course I have to ask the usual questions:

Camera? Film? Lenses? Lights? Color Grading? What was your workflow?

The cameras used were the K-3 for the home movie stuff with the little girl. An Aaton s16 LTR54 was used for the all the other stuff. The "Rugged" out door hand held stuff was shot on 7285 100 reversal cross processed. All of the other stock was 7205 the new 250D, except for the bridge part outdoors which was some left over 7246 from over a year ago. The 85 and 46 were both over a year old. All other film was new.

Lenses I really didn't pay attention to the K3 lens...I figured it was the standard lens. It wasn't very wide. The Aaton had Zeiss s16 primes and a Cooke zoom.

Lighting was created with a 200w digimole, a couple of 650's and 2 40 foot 4 bank kino's. Thats it. Color correction was done at CCI Digital. The edit was done on FCP4.5. As far as after effect or SFX everything you see was done in camera. No software manipulation.

thanks for the info mediamilitia.

BTW, Shahrzad is quite beautiful. It doesn't matter a bit that I don't know what's she's singing about. :)

Great Job!!!

Great Job!!!

Very impressive and inspiring for someone just starting out directing music videos, like me. :)

What kind of budget were you working with? Don't mean to be nosey, just wanted to know what your threshold was for shooting film as opposed to using a DVX or HD camera.

thanks

hi there.
$2500 will cover the film cost (camera rental/film stock/process/telecine), we shot a little less than an hour of footage.
You still need lights tho. But that's if you shoot with or without film anyhow.
So I guess the additional cost for the same production to shoot on 16 versus video is about 2.5 grands.
