16:9 squeeze in post?!

I shoot something in 16:9 squeeze and when I import it in FCP it shows as a 16:9 footage with letterboxes, ultimatly making it 4:3. Is there a way to take away the lettreboxes to have a real 16:9 image?

edit: After taking a look it's some sort of transparancy above and under my footage. Is there a way to resize this?

What NLE are you using? It sounds like your capture or project settings are not set properly. You should be using a 16:9 project/timeline.
