anyone knows if you're using a 16:9 anamorphic lens, you will still be able to use the mini 35 to achieve a further widescreen film-look?

Cheers.

Re: 16:9 + PS Technik ?

no you cant.. because you cant use the panasonic anamorphic with mini35 at the same time. If you are talking about anamorphic primes like Hawks or Panas, When we tested the unit we where told we could, but never had them available so couldnt see how they actually went.

Re: 16:9 + PS Technik ?

ok, thanks for the reply and thanks for clearing some doubts.

So in camera 16:9 squeeze is the way to go when using the DVX with the mini35 then ?

Re: 16:9 + PS Technik ?

The short answer to that question is if you are going to film you should use anamorphic primes that will fit the PS spec. If you are not going to film, the in-camera squeeze should be acceptable.

Test, test, test.

Re: 16:9 + PS Technik ?

If you're going to transfer to film, you shouldn't be using the mini35 in the first place.

The mini35 looks great for television stuff, and would probably still hold up even in squeeze mode. For xfer-to-film work the anamorphic adapter gives you much higher resolution.

The mini35 is not for transferring to film, it's for making what you shot look like you'd shot it on film in the first place.

The anamorphic adapter gives you much higher resolution, which comes in handy for a film transfer.

Re: 16:9 + PS Technik ?

Barry,

In that case, you only recommend spending money on the mini35 adapter, if you want your films on tv, right?

Otherwise, just go for the anamorphic adapter. Is that it?

I will want to transfer my film to 35mm. In that case, I should just buy the anamorphic adapter, right?

Thanks in advance

Fidel.

Re: 16:9 + PS Technik ?

Well, they're not the same thing. The mini35 is a superb device and really makes your video look like film, but it also lowers resolution significantly, and you need all the resolution you can get when you go to film.

I can answer it for you like this: contact DVFILM and see if they'll send you their demo reel to screen. On it, I shot some stuff with the mini35 and the same shots with the anamorphic adapter. Screen it and view for yourself if you're happy with the way the mini35 looks after it's been blown up. For my purposes, I felt that the anamorphic adapter footage was acceptable, and the mini35 footage was a bit too soft to be comfortable with, but hey, your levels of tolerance may differ. You CAN blow up mini35 footage to 35mm, but you have to judge for yourself whether you like the results.

Re: 16:9 + PS Technik ?

Yes, you are right.

Does the reel include PAL footage as well? Cause I have got a PAL camera.

I'll contact DVFilm and find out.

Thanks for the info.

All the best

Fidel.

Re: 16:9 + PS Technik ?

Well, I'm getting my DVX 102 Pal today. cna't wait.

but I've put off the purchase of the 16:9 adaptor, just til I earn back the cost of this baby. ;D

Hope to experiment on the mini 35 with it soon .
