16:9 in DV mode

From what I understand, the HVX shoots native 16:9 in the DV format when in squeeze mode. Is this correct? If so, how do I get the footage to display properly on my 4:3 TV? I want to be able to see the black bars at the top and bottom. Do I have to author the footage to DVD first?

Also, how come when I shoot in high-def mode (720 or 1080), the footage displays in 16:9 on my TV with the black bars, but not when I shoot in DV mode?

If the camera has true 16:9 in DV mode, shouldn't that display as 16:9 (letterboxed) as well?

HD is native 16:9. SD is native 4:3.

If it is squeezed a program like FCP will let you unsqueeze it and shrink it resulting the the bars on the top and the bottom. IF you go widescreen mode a dvd player will put the bars in for you.
