When I shoot on hvx200 16:9 viewing it on a widescreen tv, it has no black bars on top and bottom. To get the ratio which is now on the latest dvd's which is i think 2.35:1 dose one need to crop in post?

or do I need to obtain this ratio on my monitor and place black tape against it and just shoot. After in post I can just crop acording to the 2.34:1 size?

I dnt know This may be a silly question. Please help. Thanx

There are no 2.35:1 TVs that I'm aware of, so it is perfectly normal for a 16:9 widescreen recording to fill the entire TV. There is also no native DVD aspect ratio that wide.

Your only option is to crop in post.

16:9 isn't used for "latest DVDs." It just depends on how something was shot. 16mm and 35mm before 1954 (I think) is going to be 4:3. Super 16mm and 35mm is going to be 16x9 (or 1.85:1, they're pretty close). Anamorphic 35mm (35mm squeezed to wider image using anamorphic adapter) is 2.35:1. This is still a choice in most 35mm films. For instance, Spiderman 1 was filmed 16:9 but they decided to go anamorphic for Spiderman 2.

The DVX has 4:3 native chips and the HVX has 16:9 native chips.
