Hi guys,

Could someone please post a framegrab from the anamorphic 16:9 lens. I just want to se the quality of the lens. Thanks :-)

Here's a couple(they are color corrected):

Thanks Smettli,

I noticed that these are PAL resolution (720 x 576). Doesn't the anamorphic format result in a wider image than that after being "unsqueezed" in post?

Tony

Smettli, those are shot with the anamorphic lens? or are they letterboxed. Either way, by letter boxing the footage you are not showing the full resolution of a captured anamorphic frame.

Come one - can it really be true that no-one has a raw frame taken with the anamorphic lens lying around... Please - if possible - post an unsqueezed frame and the frame after unsqueeze. Pretty please - with suger on top of it? :-)

I'm sorry guys, those pictures were stretched out in dvfilm maker, here are the unsqueezed ones straight from premiere:

Thanks for posting the pictures, Smettli. I'm not quite sure I'm understanding the anamorphic concept right with this lens... In order to make a true 16:9 widescreen in PAL resolution you'd have to make it 1024 x 576 pixels, right? Then how come yours are 720 x 431? Is this the work of DVfilm Maker? If you wanted yours in the 16:9 aspect ration they should be 720 x 405 pixels...

I just checked out the BBC website. They have an excellent article about this issue: http://www.bbc.co.uk/commissioning/tvbranding/picturesize.shtml

There's even a photoshop file for download where you can see all the cut off markers and safe areas. Pretty neat.

question:

when you shoot with the anamorphic lense you have to stretch out the image in post? Any one from NTSC land that can help? I have PP, what would the process be for me?

Yeah, I have to stretch out the footage in post, unless the film is going straight
out to a widescreen television set.

is that 4x3 footage cropped?

16x9 cropped? Or did you find a way for you camera along with the panasonic adapter to create the 2.35:1 ?

That was shot using an anamorphic lens while letterboxing in camera.

whoa whoa whoa, calm down turbo. does this mean that while doing both of these letterboxing and anamorphic lense, you get a wider shot? as in, close to cinescope?

No, you only get as wide as your lens allows. By using an anamorphic lens and letterboxing you get an aspect ratio of cinescope. The width is the same as any other anamorphic footage.
