15mm Rod Handle (alternatives?)

I'm looking for something as rigid/strong as both RedRock and Zacuto's but not looking to spend more than $200 for a handle. Any other cheaper alternatives out there?

Sorry, I wasn't specific. I meant something like the redrock microhandle or zacuto handle.

The website says Sale Price: $59.99 but still better than $200.

Picture is me standing on one of our DSLR Cage kits. I'm 6'4" and just under 300 pounds. As for the materials, we are tool builders and injection molders. So the material is a composite based on a polycarbonate with carbon fiber added along with a UV stabilizer and of course the black is blended in when the resin is compounded so you can't scratch off the color, nics and dents don't show anything as the color is black all the way through. Another bonus is its static disipative. The make up is something like this;

Modulus of Elasticity – 316,763 psi
Yield strength – 4,800 psi
Strain at yield – 1.79 %
Tensile strength – 8,800 psi
Strain at Break – 6.56 %
Poisson’s ratio - .356

Took a while to figure out the correct ration of carbon fiber and polycarbonate. And everything we sell comes with a 100% Lifetime Warranty. Made in the USA

Steve,

Quick question if I was to use the handle with this side bracket http://www.cpmfilmtools.com/Carbon_Rail_Cage_p/ss-1.htm and attach the handle to the top of this with short carbon fibre rails how much weight would the side bracket hold do you think without flexing? Just want to avoid a cage that goes arounf the rails both sides, prefer it only one side if possible.

Using the CPM side bracket: Tried the same exact thing for the same exact reason and the flex is plentiful. Others are coming out with CNC stuff. We'll have to wait.

Yeah the side strut by itself is not a very rigid set-up, thats why we don't sell a kit with just the two side struts. We had tried a modified side strut design that had a "I" beam type design so there was a raised rib on both the outside and inside to provide some additional strength for those that might have wanted just side struts but then you loose the ability to add grips and additional rails to the outside.

Mico, do you have a uni-strut as well as the side strut or did you just order a side strut?

Do you have anything like a shoulder rig without the cage? I don't really want the cage or 1/2 cage... Just a mount, rails maybe riser... handles and shoulder pad of sorts.

that one looks good, but can the cage be normal shoulder high? Is it better to be dropped down like that? It seems like the camera would be in your chest with it slung under like that?

I concur on the shoulder only remark, or at least on putting it on the bottom rails. I don't see the shouldermount working on top. Nice gear though.

We are working on a set of adapters that will allow the camera to be mounted on top or under the main rails, if on top of the rails this will offset the camera from the shoulder mount equal to the spacing of a normal set of rails x 2, so the camera will be offset from the center of the shoulder pad to the center of the camera about 120mm. These will be included in the kit, both a straight off set and a "Z" offset that can raise or lower.
What started this whole thing was a picture a customer sent along with a wish list, his desire was for the camera to be underslug (RED). My guess is he is like me, 6'4" and having the camera lower, with an LCD makes for a very comfotable rig. We are in a unique position with the cage that we can do that with the top rails. That said we don't want to exlude those that desire a conventional rig. So the offset adapters are in the works.

Speaking of conventional, has anyone seen a righthand handle as you see on traditional videocamera's? I know the DSLR form-factor is completely different from traditional shouldercams, but i like my handling traditional.
