$150 for a 575 HMI par?

I haven't found the ChromaQ ballast to be that noisy. Certainly is a lot quieter than my old TMB PowerPars. The fan can get noisy if things get really hot as it's variable speed, but as long as your fan isn't malfunctioning it isn't too loud.

Havent' compared the UV-block bulbs in brightness, but the light is certainly still super bright with them. Perhaps the UV blocking is especially aggressive and blocks a bit of visible spectrum too, or maybe light with UV looks/meters brighter because UV and violet spectrum transition is somewhat soft. I don't know a ton about UV but maybe it's like IR and there is some far Violet range that is affected by the filtration. Any kind of filtration tends not to be perfect, it may not be possible to perfectly target harmful UV for filtration.

I finally used my Enlighten light on a infomercial shoot. I had to gel my fixture with 1/4 minus green and 1/2 CTO. I have the 7000 kelvin bulb. Luckily we did need to record audio because the fan noise was loud. I will definitely be investing in a 50 foot powercon extension cable to place the ballast in another room.

I'd love to get a second one of these lights for under $200.

Here's a uncorrected still frame from the shoot.

Will the powercon extension cable work?

Does anyone know of a good UV filtering bulb for the TMB powerpar? (It takes the Gx 9.5 bulbs instead of the G22 bulbs that some other fixtures seem to take)

I actually revived this thread with this same question as you. I was never able to find any UV-Block Gx 9.5 bulbs, and I was also never able to verify that the lenses on these units had any UV protection, even though everyone says they should or are supposed to have. Since these are repurposed fixtures made for car shows or whatever, I decided I'd rather not take any chances and just bought the hot-restrike Chroma-Q's ONLY because I knew i could buy UV-Block g22 bulbs for them.

I know - it's kind of annoying that there are no good UV filtering bulbs for these lights... I'm with you in being a little nervous about using these lights without any UV filtration, and being unsure if the lenses are adequate...

Just found this, and thought it might help with the problem...http://us.rosco.com/en/product/uv-filter Does anyone have experience with these gels?

UV filter gels are probably not an adequate safety filter - they're designed to keep UV skylight off paintings in art galleries, not to perform critical safety filtration.

Don't quote me on this and you may want to look back at my posts to confirm but I believe I found UV was surprisingly blocked/controlled on my TMB PowerPar. Frankly I'm glad to be rid of the PowerPars in favor of the ChromaQs though, proper bulb and fan and color-temp and hot-restrike is nice to have...

Reviving this thread... I just stumbled upon a ChromaQ that I got dirt cheap. Will hopefully receive early next week. In the meantime - especially Noah Yuan-Vogel - any updated experiences, good or bad, with yours since your last post(s)? I just finished re-reading through this entire thread...

So... anyone know what this sound means - coming from the Chroma Q daylight par?

Bulb looks good & only has 316 hours on it. Power supply fan runs. At low or hi power - it turns on with slight buzz, starts to warm up as light get brighter - and then about 30 seconds later makes that loud sound you hear in the recording and the light & power supply fan shut off. I've worked with HMI's before - but have never heard anything like this - and it really sounds like it's coming from the head/fixture itself and not the power supply.

Yikes. I haven't heard that before. Mine makes a weird sound if I switch to low power and then back again, so I stopped doing it. But nothing like that.

Yeah - strange and doesn't make me want to continue trying to power it up. Quite the bummer - since overall, it's in otherwise good condition. Trying to decide if I should order another bulb just to rule that out. But seems unlikely it's the bulb, since it does initially come on. The small transformer looking thing in the head seems the likely culprit of making the noise.
