14-140 issues... my lens broke or...?

Either the hack affects Optical Stabilization, or i have a crap lens, or the OS was crap from the beginning... Funny thing cus all i've heard is "yeah the 14-140 has great OS" but still it catches up EVERY single micro jitter when the camera is touched, to me it seems totally non-existant... I have several IS-lenses for for Canon as reference but this OS is either a joke, or I'm having a broken lens... or if the hack affects it...?

Watch in fullscreen:

Also, i have some kind of "blurred line" slightly off-center to the left on lower apartures. Is this normal? It looks reeeeeally bad, like the bokeh screws up itself into a vertical line... Guys i know here's the easy part saying "yeah mate you got a broken lens" but i'm curious about the OS especially, cus to me it seems useless...

Can you not switch OIS off and see if it makes any difference?

Good point... quick handheld test sais yeah, OS works... but holy cow, is it dissapointing... my Sigma glass is just so much better (even on medium tele). Blergh... i'm THE handheld shooter... guess i'll have to pick up a 60D... was hoping to stick with Pana now :(

Anyway, that blurred line thing... clearly visible even on vimeo's compression (watch fullscreen). What the heck is that? Cuts right through the picture. It appears at the lower f-stops.

Are you using any kind of stabilization rig for handheld? Naked handheld on these cameras can look awful...just sticking some handles on there can really help.

As for the OIS, it seems to be more geared towards photography, IE, getting a shot where you're standing still (with your arms tucked in and holding your breath) to be PERFECTLY still for long enough to take a photo. It can be really good for static shots where you don't have a tripod...it's tricky as movement can sometimes cause the OIS to make a sudden jerky movement rather than a lot of little ones that you get with OIS off....but if you hold very still it makes the image completely still...even at full telephoto...if only for a few moments.

Seems to be a problem with OIS,
I have something similiar that apperars sometimes, but its not as bad,
my previouse 14-140 OIS sometimes got stuck and went bezerk, so panasonic were kind enough to replace it, my new copy is better, but not perfect,

If its under warranty then get it fixed

Have you tried with the hack removed? Perhaps you have found a hack combination that's faulty.

Have you tried all three O.I.S settings?

The lighting level appeared to possibly be a bit low which could be a bit of the problem.

Yes, as it is, it certainly is twitchy. I am assuming maximum (10x) zoom which will magnify vibrations. One more possibility, perhaps one of the lens/camera contacts has/had a problem.

I find that I can get decent shots with ois on at full zoom. I would bring your camera and lens in to be checked...
