$14.00 stabilizer test

Re: $14.00 stabilizer test

Could you share, what you used and how you built your stabilizer? It seems quite neat for a minidv test. I'd like to know..

I'll be satisfied if i can get this steadiness..

Thanks

Re: $14.00 stabilizer test

Give me food I built this unt
http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/steadycam/

Then modified it by putting a small monopod head where the camera would normally attach. It takes some getting used to, I was out all day and finally got the art down to the shot I posted.
Not much building, just buy the parts and screw together. The mount screw through the end cap I had a local mechanic do for $5.00. And I just noticed it's the same link as Hectorxd posted!

Re: $14.00 stabilizer test

I ran 2.5 lbs that test and have since tried 5. Results were pretty much the same except you need more asperin at the end of the day for 5lbs.

Re: $14.00 stabilizer test

Same plans uniboob and I used a few months back. This thing is a beaut. It makes anyone a good steadicam operator...well, almost. Uniboob had his own special mod similar to the monopod head. I used a pipe flange and some nylon bolts to secure mine. It works like a charm...just hang on to those bolts, (buy flat head ones and keep some quarters handy). We also tried diff pipe lengths...it's a little easier on the arm than diff weights...Long pipes do wonders for walking, shorter ones for sprints...
You can see the evolution in our skills with Uniboob's Chinatown clip (most probably remember it) http://younghlee.com/films/chinatown_scene.mov All the steadicam stuff was pretty much shot in sequence, so you can see how we got better at it as the shoots progressed.

Re: $14.00 stabilizer test

Nice stuff. I have seen some so called steadicam operators that were worse. How was your forearm and wrist the next day?
