1394 Device Disconnect on PC

The problem, everytime I try to connect my HVX200 to my PC Avid MCA 2.7.7 via firewire all I get is 1394 device disconnect. I have searched all the forums and there's a ton of help for Macs, but little for PC's. Can anyone offer any help for me?

Before we get too far... I am aware of the software switch of USB Device/1394 Device. The USB setting works fine with the appropriate cord into the PC, this is how I often get footage into my Avid. When I switch the camera to 1394 device, go to MCR mode then hold the switch for 2 seconds to get to PC/DUB all I get is "1394 device disconnect" (and yes I have waited 5+ minutes for this to change, it never does).

I swear I got it to work once with the cable provided with the camera. But I have tried other firewire cables and ports (directly into an add on firewire 3 imput card) on the pc. I should also note that I have 2 firewire drives (graphics) daisy-chained on the same PC firewire card which work fine, so I doubt its a blown firewire card.

Can anyone help me, Im desperate for an answer?!!

I agree, not enough active PC users here! :)
We just jumped into Vista Ultimate 64. What OS are you on?

The only tip I can suggest is try having the camera powered on and connected before starting AVID.
If that doesn't work, try starting the PC with the camera on and connected.

It shouldn't have to work this way, but this should help AVID and/or the PC recognizes and "installs" the device.

Have you tried device manager, add new hardware, etc.
Ever since XP things are truly plug and play. But sometimes you gotta connect a driver to the device manually, especially as new devices are manufactured.

I can't help you much with AVID since we're using SpeedEDIT and VT5.

Not really even an avid problem. When I connect it & turn it on XP comes up and says theirs a camcorder connected, when I hit the button (MCR), then hold it, DEVICE DISCONNECT pops up (the other window goes away). So I really never get into Avid for it to crap out.

As I mentioned, I follow the EXACT same procedure using USB and it works perfectly. In the Avid all is well. Very annoying, works for usb, not 1394

I think technically firewire is unsupported in PCs, which probably doesn't help. First I would try the cable. I have one cable that will connect to the cam only in SD, in HD it's like the camera stops existing.

I have tried a few different firewire cables, neither works. One person on Avid.com suggested disconnecting all other firewire drives (for the record, I have tried looping the Camera into the drive chain, also, seperately into an open port on the 3 input additional firewire card in my PC AVID.

Win XP is what Avid supports at this time. I have also tried to disconnect addtional firewire drives, then add the hvx200 directly to additional firewire card (suggestion from avid forums) and this too did not work.

I also did restart the computer with the camera plugged in first, nothing changed.
